Get this original musical about love and earthquakes and the similarities between them to Minneapolis for the Minnesota Fringe Festival!
Help get QUAKE to the Minnesota Fringe Festival!
In January of 2010, I was fortunate enough to be in my first major earthquake ever in Humboldt County, California. Being from the Midwest, this was a major, life-changing event for me. Then, a couple of days later, the earthquake struck Haiti, and I felt like I had to do something. Having recently come out of a relationship, I started to see some pretty major parallels between being hopelessly in love, and being hopelessly in an earthquake. So, I did what any earth-moved citizen would do. I wrote and performed a play about it.
QUAKE is a new musical about earthquakes and love, and how, really, they're not that different. It tells the story of Joe and Hannah (played by me, Tyler Olsen, and Zuzka Sabata). They're a recently broken-up couple who are trapped in a storage closet when an earthquake hits. In the confines of this tiny space, they discover that to be truly caught by something as powerful as love or an earthquake is equal parts horrifying and exhilarating. The production itself all takes place in the confines of a small linen closet, and features songs by Bob Schneider, Daft Punk, Emiliana Torrini, Paul McCartney, The Bobs, and Britney Spears, all performed by two people, a cappella.
QUAKE premiered in Humboldt County in February of 2010 to glowing reviews (http://www.northcoastjournal.com/issues/2010/02/11/shake-and-quake/ You'll need to scroll down past the first review), and was fortunate enough to be accepted to the Minnesota Fringe Festival (fringefestival.org). However, we somehow need to get the production and Zuzka to Minnesota from California.
Which is where you come in!
I'd like to propose a "Send Minnesota its First Earthquake" project, asking folks to contribute to the project to help pay for:
-The construction of a touring set and props
-Fringe Festival fees
HOW IT WORKS: If we can raise all $1900 amount by July 10, we get the full amount. But if we don't raise the full amount, we don't get ANY of it. So, every dollar counts! We've set the lowest contribution at $5, so most everybody can afford to donate (although if you want to donate more than $5, we'll certainly take it!). And, if you can't afford that, there's other ways to help! You can pass word along to friends who can help donate or could come see the show you can volunteer at the Fringe, you can bake us cookies- whatever! The more people that know about it, the more people will come, and that's what we really care about. Any money we raise ABOVE our goal we can use to get the word out even more!
We both think QUAKE is a really important, touching piece, and one that's particularly timely, given the frequency of earthquakes in the past 6 months, and the even greater frequency at which people seem to fall into (and out of) love. Please donate and become a part of new, exciting, original theatre that's about the world we live in NOW.
Thanks for your time, support, and money, and we hope to see you at the Fringe!
