Dear friends,
I am super excited about a new project of 6 new original songs and two delicious rearrangements of pop and jazz classics and one reprisal track. We are calling the project simply Michael Summers “ More”.
After many, many years in music, as a rocker in the late 70’s and 80’s, to the introspective 90’s I spent in Nashville, on through to today, I have made so many friends and met so many fans, yet I remain virtually unknown to the world.
It is my simple hope to “join the dance” with this project.With your help, I know we can make wonderful music together!
Why?
In keeping with the belief that we all should seek our passions in life and try to live them, is the all-spark for these songs.
Why jazz you ask? I have had an ongoing love affair with the melodies of the classics since I was young, hearing and singing them throughout my life.
Most don’t know I actually did a gig at a place in Oklahoma city called the Grand when I was still a long haired rock and roller, putting on a suit and trying to downplay my ponytail whilst crooning Sinatra tunes in the early 80’s.
Again with Nashville greats in the 90’s while trying to become a better songwriter a find my voice as an artist, and now for over a decade here in Oklahoma City exclusively at the UCO Jazz Lab.
The ideas
In a busy world of kids, soccer, work and the pursuit of happiness, it’s hard to sometimes remember that you are a creative being. So I took some time away from that life and wrote these songs.
Some of ideas came flowing into my head while I rested my eyes on the micro- climate of California a few years back and some were presented to me by fellow band mates and old friends.
Once we started putting them together it was clear we were going to have a very nice project on our hands. It’s what many of you have been asking for all these years.
Co-writing with Dennis Borycki, Chris Hicks, Rich Lloyd and having Lee Rucker write horn parts for our work is just a real treat. We plan on bringing in bassist Ed Garcia and Justin Walke to track “Live” in the studio adding that extra ZING of…..oh man…we gotta do this right…right now. J
Once we started putting the songs together it was clear we were going to have a very special project on our hands. It’s what many of you have been asking for all these years.
The money
Making a recording is still a costly endeavor. Marketing it is another story all together.
The goal is to raise 15,000 here on Kickstarter.
It’s going to be just enough to track, master and produce discs.
A unique aspect of Kickstarter is that after you make your pledge, your credit card will only be charged after we reach our target goal of $15,000. This guarantees you'll only be contributing toward a project that is actually going to fund.
It also means that if we fall short of the goal I won’t receive any contributions, and the project will have to be done hand to mouth…a much longer more grueling process LOL!. So it's all …or nothing! Let's do this! Let's make this take wings.
