Leaves Russell will create a richly layered and dynamic meditation in their first ever full-length studio album!
This album sets out to explore the complexity of the human shadow, celebrating our simultaneous denial and acceptance of the darkness within each of us. The songs explore the impact of over-identifying with, as well as denying the existence of a shadow. The songs balance a lilting playfulness with a swelling intensity.
We're going to use exciting musical ingredients: alongside Matthew's geologic vocals, we'll mix together backup vocals, piano, organs, violins, violas, electric mandolin, accordion, whistles, vibraphone, drums, bass, congas, shakers, plus weird sounds like whales and highways ... It should taste pretty good.

Perhaps the biggest challenge of this project will be to stick to our timeline. We are adamant about making each track glow, and giving the project a high level of technical quality, but it won't be easy to stay within the time we've alloted ourselves. Once it is at an A level we will have to let go of our perfectionist tendencies and release it, or this album could go on indefinitely!
Inevitably, we will hit some bumps in the road such as computer programs crashing, but we have taken precautions to have everything backed up in more than one place at all times. We can afford some minor setbacks, but the larger ones must be avoided at all costs. We look forward to the kinks and surprises that will come our way, and we feel ready, and have a great support system to tackle whatever is to come!
