About this project
As we recored our debut album "Dead Woman Walkin," one year ago, we were very much a band in search of our sound. With that recording, we found it. In the over 200 shows we have played since its release, that sound has not only been refined, it has been taken to the next level. In February we decided to be bold and once again leave the security of a home and return to the road full-time. "The Devil Herself" is a body of work that represents a band forged in the fires of adversity. From catastrophes, to failures, to brushes with death and the judgment that springs from our decision to revolt against status quo, we have bled, cried, and screamed for joy and pain, all to bring the music that we so believe in to the people that believe in us. It hasn't been easy, but it has been the most rewarding year of our lives, yielding what we truly believe is a collection of the best work of our career to date. This album is for the misfits, the strange ones, the quiet storms, and the disenfranchised that are so often mistaken for malignant as they try to make their way in a society that favors style over substance and the illusion of normalcy over heartfelt individuality. "The Devil Herself" will feature 12 tracks, with an emphasis on our now-signature washboard/banjo latin-gypsy dance numbers, as well as several introspective guitar/bass pieces. We are once again reaching out to our friends and fans to help us bring this album to life.
We are scheduled to begin recording with Jeff Hodges at Charleston Sound Studios in January of 2012, and will be touring the US constantly on our never-ending tour. The money raised will pay for the recording, mixing, mastering, graphic design, and initial printing of the album. Thank you so much for your support. Music is our world, and we are so grateful to those that give us the opportunity to make it every day.

The bulk of the money will pay for ten days at Charleston Sound Studios where the album will get recorded and mixed. The remainder will pay for the mastering, graphic design, and initial printing of the album. We have worked with Jeff at Charleston Sound before. As an engineer he is tough to beat. He understands our unusual setup and how to best capture it.

Our music is our life. Even if we go over our goal every cent will be spent on the promotion of the album. The goal only covers what is needed to bring the CD to life. Past that we will still need to find ways to get the album reviewed and promoted.

Megan Jean will put together a washboard instrument, sign it, and attach up to four unique items of your choice. Popular items include dingy bell, wood block, cowbell, small cymbal, resonant can. But if there are any unusual or creative ideas you have we are all about it.

We get a lot of compliments on our unusual takes on cover songs. While we are not a cover band, we do enjoy breathing new life into old favorites. We frequently get asked to cover specific songs but we don't really have the time to do all of them. For backers at the $500 level we would be happy to cover any song, and I mean ANY song, and send you a high res video of us performing it.

As a band on the road full time we schedule our lives at least three months in advance. No matter where you live (in the continental US), we are willing to travel to your home for a two set concert. For backers at the $1000 level we suggest you have at least a general idea as to when you would like us to come over and let us know so that we can start to plan accordingly.

Soon. If we still haven't been to your town, let us know. We are always looking for new places to play. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. We listen for it. By the end of this year we will have played over 200 shows. Next year will be no different. We hope to expand upon our circuit and reach a broader audience in new cities and towns.

Hard-touring, foot-stompin', guitar beatin, upright lickin, washboard scratchin,' banjo pickin' madness with a voice like the devil herself.
Charleston, SC-based duo Megan Jean & the KFB arrange a demented blend of gypsy, circus, americana, and the avant-garde that has been captivating audiences all over America. The pair met in New York City in 2004 and quickly became disillusioned with the music-mill mentality that dominates the concrete jungle. Feeling lost in the shuffle, Jean and Klay decided to sell all their possessions, quit their day jobs, and hit the road full-time, focusing on the Southeast. Fourteen shows turned into 200 a year and a newfound home-base in Charleston's burgeoning music community. While on the road, the pair forged their unique sound, which has been described as "...a wealth of gorgeous tunes that brilliantly [merge] American roots music with exotic elements of Euro/gypsy styles." (T. Ballard Leseman, Charleston City Paper) Calling the road home on a "never-ending tour" with an anchor firmly planted in the Lowcountry, this transient duo has taken DIY lifestyle and transformed it into a kind of Voodoo that unites scenes, fans, bands, clubs and musical styles-all without the help of a label and fueled by sheer guts and know how.
