About this project
The Issues
The goal of this project is to create a limited edition publication with an emphasis on the collectable nature of fine books. We want to take the idea of the do-it-yourself ‘zine, which anyone can produce, and create something unique and at a high level of quality that you allow our issues to live alongside your most prized hardcover books.
By pledging at the $25 level, you are reserving and purchasing a copy of our exclusive Issue #0. This issue is a compilation of creative work from many talented photographers, designers, illustrators and artists that we’ve asked to participate and contribute to this project.
Beginning with Issue #1 each book will feature the work of one select contributor and will be produced uniquely in a manner comparable to the work being featured.
Initially, outside of Issue #0, the only way to purchase issues of Indv. will be as a Volume. This way we can focus on producing issues at the level of quality that we feel are deserving of the contributors we are featuring.
The Rewards

Issue #0: For $25 and up you reserving our exclusive Issue #0 compilation. We estimate that it will be ready to ship in March/April 2012 (Shown is a composition. The final production may be slightly different.)
Vol.1 (limited to 240): For $65 and up you are pre-ordering the entire Vol.1 of Indv. This includes Issue #0 plus 3 additional issues delivered throughout the upcoming year.
Sponsored Issue #0 (limited to 10): Unlike most publications we disregard the idea of advertising. We will, however, support the aligned views and focus of a few sponsors. For $85 you will be recognized as a sponsor of Issue #0 and we will print your, or your company’s, name on the issue's accreditation page.
Sponsored Vol. 1 (limited to 10): For $100 you will be recognized as a sponsor of Vol. 1 and we will print your, or your company’s name on all the included issues accreditation page.
*Domestic U.S. shipping is included for all items and rewards levels.
International shipping: Additional costs for International First-Class shipping are as follows:
$25/$85 levels (Single issue): Add $10
$65/$100 levels (Vol. subscription): Add $20
The Funds
The money raised will be spent producing the publication and the included production costs, fulfillment, shipping (international shipping extra) and to the contributors participating, because without their work we wouldn’t have anything to feature.
The Backstory
So how does one become a ‘zine publisher? As a designer I’m always looking for interesting projects that pique an interest and present an opportunity to learn something new. And with a lot of attention being placed on digital publishing due to the arrival of tablet computers it seemed like a place to start. But then the realization hit, the type of publication I wanted to produce wouldn't work digitally.
Digital publishing offers a fantastic way to consume content that I consider disposable. The daily newspaper, the monthly lifestyle magazine, or any other form of content that continually or regularly gets produced for informative or entertainment purposes. I don’t want to create something disposable. I want to create something that hopefully exists for a long time.
I want to create something that could live alongside the books I continue to purchase for the same reason. By purchasing a book, I’m purchasing information, knowledge and insight in a permanent form. And I wanted to find a way to add some degree of permanence to the work of artists, designers and other creative types that in today’s ever growing digital age seems fleeting (or temporary).
So Here We Go
The project duration is set for 45 days so that we have time to put the finishing touches on Issue #0 and begin to plan out Issue #1. While you all are supporting the project we’ll be making arrangements for the production and working with the contributors to plan out their unique issue and going back over details and ideas that may require a bit more polish.
We really appreciate you taking the time to consider joining us on this. You can follow along with our progress through the project updates and for more you can follow us on Twitter here.
Thank you,
Your friends at Indv.
