Hire an artist to paint a vent pipe in downtown Fairbanks, Alaska to brighten the streetscape of this subarctic city.

Art in the Heart: Paint the Pipes is the first public art project of the Downtown Association of Fairbanks Community Services, an urban renewal nonprofit located in the far north. This project will provide opportunities for artists to create work that contributes to the vitality of the streetscape and enhances the urban experience.
It's all about building a better, brighter, and more vibrant downtown in the urban "heart" of Alaska!
We're raising money to pay artists a $300 stipend to paint white vent pipes scattered throughout downtown Fairbanks in the designs and colors of their choice (no theme), as well as to cover the cost of supplies and advertising.
We see these white pipes as the perfect canvas. They provide air exchange (like having a window open) for the utilidor below the streets and buildings of downtown and have long blended into the built environment.
This Kickstarter campaign will allow individuals the chance to make their mark on the streetscape of downtown Fairbanks. All contributions will fund the completion of one vent pipe- which means your money will directly help us to hire a local artist to complete this project by summer's end.
In return, you stand to earn some fabulous Art in the Heart rewards including Downtown Market tokens, limited edition t-shirts, YOUR NAME ON THE PIPE, a framed photo of the completed project, and even a private dinner with project organizers and the chosen artist.
Full project details (including an application for artists) are available on our website and you can find the Downtown Association of Fairbanks on Facebook and Twitter. We also have a map of pipe locations. We ♥ comments and suggestions- so please share!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! And we'll see you on the streets!
