Silk Screens complete

Update #16 · May 18, 2012 · comment

After a full opening at the Montauk Club and a rowdy reception, we got back to the studio to complete our next leg of this project: silk screens for our backers!  After a couple of weeks in Waylon Tait's studio the prints are now complete.  He's the silk screen guru.  Check out his work: www.waylontait.com

This is to let everyone know that you'll be receiving another message from us about shipping address info very soon.  Next week will begin our active relationship with the Postal service and providing our dear friends with what they are owed.

Next, we are on to working with collaborating film-maker, Jonathan Johnson, who will editing down our footage to create the documentary "Auto-Paint, USA".  We've already begun working with him and we're very excited about this last part of the project.  His new film "The Creek When He Came Back", will be shooting next month. His Kickstarter campaign for it is here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/847478286/the-creek-when-he-came-back?ref=live

That's all for now!

Hey Everybody!

One week until the show and we are hard at work! The paintings are looking great but we’re still making our final touches. Just recently we found out about our listings on Art Cat and Art Cards, two great websites highlighting current exhibitions. Check them out here:

We look forward to seeing everybody Wednesday night at the Montauk Club!

We're Still Here!

Update #14 · Jan 23, 2012 · comment

Hey everybody! Happy new year. I know its been a while since you've heard about our project but we want to let you know that we're still going strong. Eric and I have been hard at work since we got back to NYC. I recently acquired a painting studio, and we've both been working diligently on finishing work from the trip as well as starting new pieces.

We are now preparing to have our Auto-Paint show in NYC. This will be our opportunity to display our paintings that we initially showed in LA to our NY community. The work is further realized and complete since the original incarnation in August.

The show will be at the Montauk Club in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The opening reception will take place on Wednesday February 29th from 7-9 pm. Spread the word!

With that said, all of the work will begin to be sent out to our donors after the show. I have hesitated to put my work online since it is still in progress, but by March all of our portfolios will be available online. Prints and drawings will also be sent out as well.

So don't worry we haven't forgotten about you! And we look forward to seeing everyone at our opening in February.

Project Accomplished!

Update #13 · Sep 9, 2011 · comment

We made it!  After 8 weeks on the road we had our show in Los Angeles, displaying 32 paintings and 80-some photographs from the trip (although we shot about 6,000).  We also got a lot of footage with our Flipcams and will be compiling it into a documentary over the next 6 months.  Now is the time to finish up paintings and drawings and make prints in Brooklyn.  Thank you so much to everyone that helped us make it!  There's much to digest and pour out into the paintings over the coming months.

Our goal is to get everyone their artwork before the new year.  Many of the paintings and drawings are finished, but we have yet to make the prints.  Jackson's friend, Waylon, will be granting us access to his studio/printshop to make these.  The documentary will probably take the longest amount of time, but we will keep you updated on how it's going.  Keep a look-out for requests of where to send items.

For a more-detailed run-down of the trip please visit the blog: www.autopaintusa.blogspot.com

and our tumblr account for more photos: www.autopaintusa.tumblr.com

Also, I am taking requests for paintings now. It will be our decision of what we will be sending to people but we welcome any imput, and will consider your request for a specific piece.  To see my finished paintings from the trip go to: www.ericdiehlpaintings.com

More will be added in the coming weeks, but enjoy these pieces for now!

much love,

Eric (and Jackson)

Car Trouble!

Update #12 · Aug 8, 2011 · comment
Last night we noticed yet another car ailment. Our brakes were crunching and the wheels were squealing. We took the car to the mechanic and it turns out our rotors are rusted and need to be replaced as well as the brake pads. All of this will add up to be an additional $500 for our trip, cutting into our gas money.

Here is our proposal. If anyone would like to donate further to this trip you can still do so. Our rewards are listed on our kickstarter page and they will still be available. And if anyone would like to INCREASE their pledge then we will accommodate any additional funds with increased rewards. Auto-Paint, USA is much more than we planned but the results will be well worth the effort. There are 19 days left before our show. Lets make it happen!

Donations can be made to Paypal. CLICK HERE

Our account will be diehl.eric@gmail.com.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. We greatly appreciate your help.
