About this project

Pssst! Open the UPDATES tab above to check out our enticing rewards!

This is it! If we can raise at least $12,000 through Kickstarter, you'll get a nifty new production company -- Little Bird Theater. Here's our mission:

We present performances to wake you up. We prioritize excellence, intellect, love and beauty so that artists and audiences alike might leave the theater feeling more connected and alive.

After 15 years of writing, acting, directing and helping to manage theaters in Bellingham, I'm thrilled to create Little Bird. For our debut, we're presenting my new play, February September. It's about a single woman who decides to get pregnant, and her family's reaction. It's about brothers and sisters and chipwiches, and features a stellar cast. Kickstarter willing, we'll perform it for you in April 2012.

Little Bird Theater doesn't have a permanent home. Instead, we'll do pop-up performances, slipping into vacant spaces for a short term rental. We'll build the set, rehearse and perform the show, then move on. By fully inhabiting each space, we aim to create a rich experience for our audiences while injecting life into the empty buildings around town.

Kickstarter funds will pay for the building blocks of Little Bird (e.g. lights & a mobile stage) and cover the production costs for our first show. After that, Little Bird will be self-sustaining: ticket revenues from the previous show will fund each new project.

Thanks for your interest and support! I can't wait to bring Little Bird to life.

love,

carolyn.

  • We don't know yet. We’ll slip into a vacant space at the last minute, bringing life to downtown by making art in empty buildings. We'll start the search for a venue in early 2012.

  • Mostly original work. In 2012 we'll present February September and a new play by Ben Eisner. Mike Mathieu (The Cody Rivers Show) is interested in writing for Little Bird, though nothing is in the works as yet. Despite the diminutive in the title, Little Bird's shows will be for grown-ups.

Favorite Bellingham roles include Sam in "Squalor," Philia in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" and Greta in "After Easter." Carolyn sings with the folk trio Random Orbit Sanders and has been known to belt out jazz tunes at Skylark's.
