One month artist residency with the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture: Taliesin Artist in Residency Program, Spring Green, WI.

About this Project:

I have been chosen to do a one month residency this summer through the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture: The Taliesin Artist Residency Program (TARP) in Spring Green, WI from mid-July through mid-August.  Only 1-3 artists are chosen each summer to participate in this unique program, where the focus is to create new works centering on site-specific installation, and contemporary work that responds to the natural, architectural and community settings. During my stay in Wisconsin ,I will be making new and exciting sculptures and installations, as well as participating in the Taliesin community and events.

What is The Taliesin Artist in Residency Program (TARP):

Every summer The Taliesin Artist Residency Program (TARP) invites 1-3 artists to participate in a month long residency program in order to respond to the unique characteristics of the architectural sites of Taliesin and Taliesin West and their vibrant communities.  Taliesin, in Spring Green, Wisconsin was established in 1932, which was based on the idea of the allied arts fostered in a community of learners that could be an alternative to the traditional learning practices.  Taliesin has served as a living, working, educational space, forming a creative diverse community of professional architects, artists, faculty students and staff.

How will this residency benefit me as an Artist:

Being able to contribute to the community that Taliesin offers would be a great chance to explore the different avenues art establishes with fellow artists, as well as continuously maintaining the succession of sharing new thoughts.   This consistent flow of ideas will be broadened even more by the addition of approximately 20 architecture students also staying at the school during that time. This aspect is particularly exciting to me because I will be surrounded by students who have a great deal of knowledge and experience to pass on in terms of the conception and realization of architectural pursuits.  I have no doubt that my residency experience at Taliesin would launch an entirely new set of tools when conceptualizing and creating work that will become an inherent part of the ever changing dynamic in my studio practice.

How will this residency impact me personally:

It is immensely valuable to take the time to truly see what other artists view as significantly important in their lives and how they weave those feelings and beliefs into their artwork.  Being able to see those deeply personal evaluations and conclusions depicted makes one gain a greater understanding of why we strive to make art on a daily basis.  To be able to see another artist’s reality come into fruition activates the world around you on a much deeper and sincere level, so much to the point that you in turn pass that authenticity onto those that surround you.  This personal exchange of information and ideas, in turn, creates a sympathetic cycle of community that is can only be described as beautiful.  Being lucky enough to cultivate these experiences has a major impact when thinking about and implementing my studio practice beyond the walls of my workspace.

Why this residency is important for “YOU” as a supporter:

All funds donated will provide fundamental materials for my art making practice such as building supplies, paint, fabric, cotton candy sugar, art transportation costs, and the residency fee for room and board.  Your support will give me the opportunity to extend my studio practice by creating new and exciting works of art inspired by the community, learning, and surroundings at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, as well as completing a new piece of art that will be donated to the school as part of their personal collection.  Your support will also continue Frank Lloyd Wright’s vision of communal education, as well as aiding in the preservation of the buildings, artifacts, landscape, and legacy of an outstanding architect.

THANK YOU!!!
