WHAT

            I N T E R F E R E N C I A S   2 0 1 2

          W h a t  w e  c a n n o t  d o  a l o n e 

After a year and with an amazing active energy, the moment to formalize the idea of a second meeting as a consequence of consistence during 2011, it is soon to come true.  From a wide number of meetings, feedbacks on Skype sessions and a long list of emails between all the participants and the Institution that support the project in Mexico in 2010,  we are ready to make it happen! This time with a new premise: to conform an itinerant community. So this is it! Interferencias steps out of Mexico as the only place to meet. We choose Portugal and Austria for its mobilization. Now, we are assuming the chance to establish nomadism as a motor to exchange ideas about performance form different contexts and the possible relations we can create in these 3 different countries.

We already established contact and we are giving continuity so Interferencias can happen in Brasil in 2013 and in Canada in 2014. For now, in 2012, we established relationships with Institutions that will host the project during the summer. This year, Interferencias, proposes to work in collaboration with other collectives and groups of artists that are moving in the same line of research, to reflect upon the creation and production of performance pieces in the present times. We are willing to give continuity to the research and the reflection that this community proposes from its beginning.

This engine drives us to make everything to concrete the mobilization of all this artistic community around these 3 locations. We understand that the major investment needed to realize this encounter has to do with airfare and travel expenses for all the participants. This is why -with an open heart and strong energy- we are asking you to support this intention.

WHERE DO WE GO

PORTUGAL. 10th-26th July / C a t c h i n g  t h e  f i s h 

• Artistic Residence , 10 days, to elaborate the performance for  presenting the Book. Hosted by the program CAPa (Centro de Artes Performativas do Algarve,Faro/Portugal, DeVIR, Associação de actividades culturais)

Al the participants will gather in Vienna  and work on:

• Collaboration and residency with artists from TTP Wuk Dance Theatre through meetings and workshops.

• Present several collective actions in public spaces.

• In the frame of ImpulsTanz Festival
 we will do: an open talk to share our reflection/practice/result about the previous research done in Portugal and Mexico 2010. Present the Interferencias Book and have an exchange of experiences with DanceWebbers.

 MEXICO. 14th- 27th August / C r o s s f a d e

• Residency at CANTE (Centro de Arte y Nuevas Tecnologías) in CASLP (Centro de las Artes de San Luis Potosí, Centenario) central experience that will be develop around the elaboration and continuity of workshops and laboratories organized from the participants. Workshops that we decide to call Practices, more as a field on process of building a community that is aware of context and locality.

   MOBILITY  AND  KICK STARTER  PROJECT

We’ve estimated the cost of the project at approximately $101,297 USD from what we estimate $ 42,341 USD are for airfare and/or travel expenses. So here we are! 

We are asking to this amazing and active community that gather on Kick Starter to help us raise $ 14,535 USD to buy the air fare of some of us, who after trying hard , won’t make the necessary funds to move on.

We believe that through this platform we are going to make it to the goal. The goal of being a nomadic community that will look forward to expand this intention of finding modes for working in collaboration and with a shared idea of creating unto the contemporary art scene with no formalized structure, but finding new forms of making/producing/reflecting art. Being surprised by finding new experiences related with performance practices and very excited about the idea of making relations with new communities that can find affinity with this idea or, give some beautiful and interesting feedback to this project.

We´ve been also very impressed and grateful, for what Kickstarter project is, in the sense of connecting people through ideas, and by that, set an amazing platform for individuals, collectives or galactic families from a wide range of disciplines, that are all thinking in new ways to produce and make upon to the artistic scene and finding different ways for sharing practices and knowledge. So by sharing and looking for resonance in another little point on earth that can be connected with the proposed idea, or make some kind of noise at the insight of people vibrating in the same frequency, with communities that understand, share and conceive about new ways of approach to real context and wide panorama of the artistic practice, please!

CONTEXT

From our point of view, Interferencias is our collective response to the contemporary cultural landscape: an attempt to reflect and take agency upon the artistic modes and conditions of work in relation to the wide context of production and existence in our contemporary societies.
Interferencias aims indeed to take a stance in the globalized world we are living in, both by acknowledging and embracing the possibilities given by the current conditions: migration, multicultural exchange, democratization of knowledge and information, networking etc. and by operating on a micro-level, taking into account the social and cultural specificity of the different contexts within which it will move through in order to contribute to non-homogenization of cultural and artistic spaces and practices. We deeply believe that art shall promote a plurality of modes of doing and being in order to contribute to a more rich, peaceful and prolific world.

 I N T E R F E R E N C I A S    2 0 1 0 

Between November and December 2010, 25 artists from different countries gathered at Centro de las Artes Centenario in San Luis Potosí, Mexico and at Centro Cultural del Bosque in Mexico City for the International Encounter about Performance Practice, which Alma Quintana and Esthel Vogrig where the ones who kindly provided the seed and pushed strongly and energetically to develop the project in collaboration with Centro de las Artes in San Luis Potosí-CANTE, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, with the support of Centro Cultural del Bosque, in Mexico City and the support within the program of special funds from FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes).  

The principal motor for this meeting was to gather a group of national and international artists to create an ephemeral community that was able to rethink and explore about the current paradigms of performance practice from diverse contexts, perspectives and histories.

Point A: Collectively think about the labor of the artist/performer and about the existent platforms for collaboration in the artistic scene.

Point B: Attend to the premise that brings out the importance of gathering a multiplicity of persons with different contexts and backgrounds, to exercise reflection.

Point C: Several performances presented by all the participants. Workshops open to the public. Sharing knowledge.

Interferencias was a multilayered event. The project was presented first as an encounter; a time to gather and question about choreography and propose other creative possibilities that produce reflection through practice and new practices through dialogue.  During the meeting we where addressing topics like collaboration, empirical process, production and reception of performance pieces and alternative ways to make/produce art. 

During these 3 weeks, other than sharing interests among performance practices, we also discussed topics about the ways of producing theories and reflections in contemporary art, establishing a very deep relation with the participants and the audience that assists the encounter.

At the insights of this community, we collaborate, celebrate, think about writing a collective book that refer to the experiencie of the encounter, produce a collective performance, and slowly move towards an indefinite place that was clear to each of us, only after we all went back home.

And it was in this path that many things began to move after the first meeting in Mexico. Ideas about collaboration became possible even when distance seemed like a limitation for the continuity of this project. This first encounter made apparent that Interferencias is in fact a framework for artistic research: not a festival, nor an encounter, but a living process that aims to challenge formats and is willing to keep rethinking and reshaping itself. Somehow, gathering people from many different countries, backgrounds and practices wasn't enough. This mixed group needed to travel, collaborating and exposing themselves and their creative process to a variation of contexts.

            Lo que no podemos hacer solos

Después de dos años y con la energía reactivada, llegó el momento de formalizar la idea de un segundo encuentro. Desde 2010 (cuando  ocurriò el primer encuentro) trabajamos en   constantes conversaciones y feedbacks en Skype, juntas presenciales y una larga lista de emails entre todos los integrantes del proyecto y la institución que respladó este proyecto en México . Ésta vez tenemos  una nueva premisa: ser una comunidad itinerante. Es así que este año Interferencias se desprende de México como el único punto de encuentro y se agregan Portugal y Austria para su movilización. Se suma al proyecto la posibilidad de ser nómadas, de intercambiar ideas sobre las artes performáticas a partir de los contextos y las nuevas relaciones. Ya está en marcha la planeación de una edición Interferencias Brasil 2013 y  Canadá 2014.

Para 2012, hemos concretado lazos con algunas instituciones que albergarán el proyecto durante este verano. Este año Interferencias, se propone trabajar en conjunto con otros posibles colectivos y grupos de artistas que piensan en creación y producción de obra escénica en un contexto contemporáneo, así como dar continuidad a la investigación y la reflexión que esta comunidad se propuso desde sus inicios.

Entendemos que la mayor inversion que implica la realización de este encuentro es para el transporte aereo de todos los integrantes, y es lo que les pedimos nos apoyen en esta ocasión, con todo nuestro corazón.

MOVILIDAD  Y  K I C K S T A R T E R  PROJECT

Hemos estimado el costo del proyecto en alrededor de $101,297 USD del cual $42,407 USD se estiman para el gasto en transporte aereo. 

Es así que estamos pidiendo a esta hermosa y activa comunidad que se reúne en Kickstarter, que nos ayude a juntar la cantidad de $14,535 USD para comprar los boletos de avión de algunos de los participantes que no han logrado conseguir el apoyo en su país residente. 

Creemos que a través de esta plataforma lograremos el objetivo de hacer que esta comunidad sea itinerante y al mismo tiempo, creemos también en la posibilidad de ampliar nuestras intenciones al darle voz a este proyecto y así encontrar similitudes con otras comunidades que están pensando las mismas cosas y de poder expandir el terreno para la reflexión en torno a las prácticas escénicas y el compartir experiencias en distintas latitudes del mundo.

Durante tres semanas entre noviembre y diciembre del 2010, 25 artistas de diferentes partes del mundo, se encontraron en México en el marco del Encuentro Internacional de Arte Performático -Interferencias- de quien Alma Quintana y Esthel  Vogrig son creadoras o digamos, quienes depositaron la semilla en tierra fértil para el desarrollo y realización de este proyecto. En conjunto con el  Centro de las Artes de San Luis Potosí-CANTE en San Luis Potosí, México y el apoyo de el Centro Cultural del Bosque, en la Ciudad de México y el apoyo por parte de la sección de fondos especiales del FONCA (Fondo Nacional para la Cultura  y las Artes), se realizó este encuentro internacional que tuvo como intención invitar a un grupo de artistas nacionales y extranjeros para crear una comunidad efímera que fuese capaz de repensar y explorar sobre los paradigmas actuales del performance, desde múltiples y diversos contextos, perspectivas e historias.

Punto A:  Pensar en colectivo sobre el quehacer del artista-perfomer en la escena y las plataformas para la colaboración en el arte.

Punto B: Atender la premisa que resaltaba la importancia de conjuntar a una multiplicidad de personas con diversos contextos para el ejercicio de ésta reflexión.

Punto C: Presentación de obras con autoría de cada uno de los participantes/Talleres abiertos al public/Compartir Conocimiento

El proyecto de Interferencias se caracterízo por ser un evento con muchos niveles de interpretación y comprensión sobre el mismo. Se planteó principalmente como un encuentro, un tiempo de convivencia, un espacio donde compartir y generar reflexiones a través de la práctica y de nuevas prácticas a través del diálogo. Durante el encuentro, se abaracaron temáticas como la colaboración, los procesos en coreografía, la producción y la recepeción de la obra en el ámbito del arte contemporáneo.

A lo largo de las 3 semanas se compartieron intereses en relación a las prácticas del performance, se discutieron temas sobre el quehacer contemporáneo en las artes escénicas estableciendo una profunda relación entre los participantes y el publico y estudiantes que asisitieron a los eventos,  tanto talleres como funciones. Al interior, la comunidad colaboró, celebró, pensó sobre la idea de publicar un libro referido al encuentro, produjo una obra en colectivo, y sutilmente, como una gran masa siguió rumbo adelante hacia un lugar indefinido que se hizo más claro solo cuando cada uno de los participantes, regresó a su lugar de residencia.

Fue así que diversos encuentros se suscitaron después del encuentro en México. Las ideas sobre la colaboración, se hicieron posibles aún cuando la distancia aparentaba ser una limitante para la continuidad de este encuentro.
