The Skase Tea Cup set is going to be produced again with your help, so many people wanted one but didn't get it, now is your chance to

Skase Tea Cup
Skase Tea Cup

The Skase teacup set is based on the idea of symbiosis. A close, prolonged association between two or more different organisms of different species that may, but does not necessarily, benefit each member. The Skase is a cup and saucer for the post-modern world. The cup is made from white glazed creamware and is freed from the usual convention of requiring a flat base. It has a pleasingly tactile pointed shape and sits upon a cross base made from Manchurian walnut.

The Story So Far...

I'm Steve, an Australian product designer and I designed the Skase a few years ago and went on to produce a couple of small editions that sold out.  Since then it has become very popular on blogs and sites across the internet and I have had so much interest in them that I need to produce another edition.  The Skase's popularity has been a bit overwhelming but generally great, people emailing me saying they love it and need one.  Unfortunately some have gone too far such as 3d modelling my design and getting a 3d print of it and then telling me they are selling their design to China! Thanks to Clive and Glen Solomon of Palmerston North, New Zealand!  Their actions have motivated me to place the design here on Kickstarter and get the goodness and kindness of strangers to fund the next edition of the real Skase Tea Cup Set made and out into the world.

The Plan...

As mentioned, I have the made the Skase before and have sourced companies to manufacture the next edition up to the same standard as the previous limited editions.  The edition run shall be larger than the last ones including a special signed and numbered amount of 100 being produced for Backers of £100 or more.  The edition shall be manufactured in Europe by craftspeople, not mass produced in China or the far east.  Once funding is secured I will commence with having the moulds made for the ceramic cups by a company located in the birthplace of cream ware in the UK.  These shall be then delivered to the ceramics factory that has been producing ceramics for over 200 years.  The bases will be manufactured in a more 21st century way CNC machined from beautiful European hardwood.  The finished  bases and cups will come together for packing and 'special treatments' as required.  They will be sent out to you via international 1st class post.  If you would like to give the Skase as a Christmas Gift this year I will email a special Christmas image to you so that you can include it in a card when gifting.

I look forward to answering any questions you may have and thank you in advance for your support of this beautiful object.

Best,

Steve

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Manufacturing Challenges Statement.

As the Skase has been produced before in smaller amounts, the challenges are in producing a greater quantity. The bases shall pose no real problems due to their automated manufacture however the ceramics may require a couple of test fires to get the temperature right. The temperature of the fire determines the final size of the ceramic cup as the firing reduces the amount of water in the ceramic. It is a little time consuming but will not effect the economics of the project just the time frame. I have every confidence in the ceramics and wooden base manufacturers I have chosen to work with and my past experience with this product will over come any risks and challenges to bring this project to fruition.
