Video Update 1: Early Demo Revealed!
We continue to have amazing momentum and incredible support from the community. In one week we eclipsed 1500 backers and $75,000. Thank you all for your continued support and sharing!
Today we are very excited to start showing you an early prototype of the actual game demo we will be revealing at Gencon next week
Remember, this is raw footage of an unfinished prototype, filmed the day we received it. We promised you behind the scenes and this is it. You’ll get a brief taste of gameplay here, and we promise to fill in the missing details (and show you more updated art, interfaces, etc.) next week.
We hope you enjoy and can’t wait to see your comments and actually get to meet many of you at Gencon! Oh, and stay tuned for one more surprise before the show. :)

@Jim- yup, we have spells that don't go into a lane.
@Ryan- the avatar leveling up only allows you to play the cards you've already played that are now leveled up. It doesn't by default level up other cards in your deck.
Creator Terence Bowlby on August 13, 2012
Gary Games should do the next DotP too. :)
Creator David Kotsonis on August 10, 2012
Jim: On one of his streams, Brian Kibler mentioned cards that are more like "spells" - one-shot effects that do their thing and then go to the discard.
Creator Ryan Brierley on August 10, 2012
When you level up, does that only affect the cards you play for a second time, or does every card in your deck now default to level 2?
Creator Jim McCollum on August 10, 2012
Looks cool! Definitely seems to have some Spectromancer influence, which is awesome. I hope there are spells that do stuff but don't go into a lane. I really liked the lane concept of Spectromancer, and the things you could do with ordering your creatures and planning ahead. It looks like the leveling mechanic and the 2 cards per turn limit is a more elegant way to pace the game than Spectromancer's mana system.
Creator Gregory Kelton on August 10, 2012
@Andy: I'm sure drag and drop is coming. No way it stays double-tap only.
Creator Stone Blade Entertainment on August 10, 2012
Hey guys- as you guessed, the interface is still under development. There will 100% be drag and drop functionality in the final version (in addition to the option to tap/double tap for play/expand)
The XP bar goes up every time you finish a turn- every four turns, it fills up and your avatar levels, shuffling all your higher level cards into your deck so you can start playing them. There are some cards that interact with this, but the standard rule is 4 turns = reshuffle and level up. Just like card leveling, this mechanic is only within a game, not persistent between games.
Creator Lee Sweeney on August 10, 2012
Would like the Option for Double Click and Drag and Drop.
As both are nice to have at times.
Looking good, will feel odd cards having no cost to play I must admit though, as you can always play your best cards. No need to worry about small creatures as the large play just as easy.
Can see that hard to balance out.
Good Luck.
Creator Andy Senesac on August 10, 2012
Looks good so far. I agree with the previous commenters on these points:
- Would prefer to drag and drop cards vs. double tapping. The double tap thing may well be just because it's early in the dev cycle however.
- I was curious about the xp bar as well. Does the experience gained persist from game to game (i.e. do you level up as in a traditional RPG) or is it specific to the game you're playing and only that game?
Really, though, looks good and I am looking forward to seeing more on the game lore as well.
Creator Jeffrey Andres Williams on August 10, 2012
Even though it's quick and accessible, I can see the potential for deep, engaging gameplay with the lane structure. Keep up the good work!
Creator Martin Eriksson on August 10, 2012
This Demo got me very excited!!! One thing i didn't get was how exp bar works on the side of the avatar, it goes up but how and why? Do you need to play a number of level one cards? And you can only play level two once you avatar is level 2?
Creator Mathieu Kittel-Hudon on August 10, 2012
Great introduction. Its coming along nicely.
I suppose how the interface works is still under development. I am not too sure about the double-tap to play the card mechanic. It would seem more intuitive for me to just touch-drag and drop the card I want to play on it's destination.
Creator Alex Urbanik on August 10, 2012
Looks very promising! Can't wait to hear more about the factions and lore that are going to surround this game.
Creator Michel Baumann on August 10, 2012
Looks very basic at first, but with the guy pumping up creatures next to him, leveling up and all that stuff it should create interesting strategies... And I have a lot of faith in the game designers.
Thanks very much for sharing all this with us. Even though it is still early, unpolished stuff. Real interesting to see all the phases of game developement. Oh, and the art is amazing.
Creator Oliver 'soulwarrior' Gehrmann on August 10, 2012
It reminds me a bit of Yu-Gi-Oh! BAM. ^^
But I guess it's a lot more strategic and it isn't over in a split second as players have more health. Oh, and I personally prefer the design and the levling up aspect and all and think this will make it a cool game! :)
Really looking forward to it, keep up the great work guys!
Creator Augusto Tavares on August 10, 2012
The moment when the other guy pumps the creatures in the spaces next to him. Just awesome.
Creator Chad Birch on August 10, 2012
Very reminiscent of Spectromancer with the "lanes". Probably not a coincidence, since Richard Garfield was involved with both.
Creator Adam White on August 10, 2012
I want to stand at the top of an exit ramp with a cardboard sign that says, "Why Lie? I'm just going to fund SolForge."
Creator Brad Dobberfuhl on August 10, 2012
I'm really intrigued by the rows and tactics you can employ. Hopefully there's a lot of versatility! Looks sweet regardless. Keep it up!
Creator Norman C. Lao on August 10, 2012
Looks great! I love the double tap to play a card interface. Will there be a feature to "take back" playing a card once it has been slotted in a lane, or are all choices final?
The panel art look fantastic as well, but it would also be nice to see the framework and borders of the higher level cards be different colors - for example: Level 1 is bronze, Level 2 is Silver and Level 3 is Gold - this would identify the elite aspect of the card and perhaps become an aspect of its trade value: ultra rare cards could have platinum borders, etc.
Keep up the great work. I'm psyched to see you all at Gen Con!
Creator Gaston Ragnar Rippinger on August 10, 2012
I really hope that there will be an Android version at some point, if the kickstarter doesn't make 500k.
Creator Rush on August 10, 2012
Looking good
Creator Jason Denis on August 10, 2012
Loving it so far....looking forward to seeing it at Gencon and how it will continue to develop!
Creator HappyWulf on August 10, 2012
Yup. Basically a mobile version of Spectromancer, with a few extra features. Make sure the decks are fully customizable and you'll have a hit.
I've already kicked it, but guess I'll only be playing the PC version since I have an Android.
Creator David Kotsonis on August 10, 2012
Awesome! Could you explain again, though, the meaning of the blue number? You say that the bar tracks when you get access to your higher-level cards; do you mean it just counts down to when you can shuffle your discarded (and thus your leveled) cards back into the deck, or does it have more significance? I'm a little confused.
Creator Samuel Snay on August 10, 2012
Looks great!
