The Butoh Swimsuit Calendar Project

There's a natural impulse -- I think we are all familiar with this kind of occasional, eyebrow-raising urge -- to put two unlikely art-forms together in a closet for a while and see what happens. The 2010 Butoh Swimsuit Calendar is the result of a highly refined process of aesthetic mongrelization.
For your viewing pleasure, this is a link to the pictures submitted for the never-published, 2007 calendar.

Here's the plan.
1. The Butoh Swimsuit Calendar will be open for submissions until September 26, 2009. Performers interested in participating, please contact me for guidelines.
2. In the final days of September, the images most effectively representing the spirit of both swimsuit calendars and Butoh will be chosen for the print calendar. We go to press.
3. Then we sell calendars, and calendar sales partially benefit the Water in the Desert Butoh Festival, in Portland, Oregon, as well as Synapsis performing arts warehouse in Eureka, California, where the idea for this originated.
Your Money
Helps with printing costs ($1200 is approximately half what we'll spend on printing). Hard-working artists doing crazy things + you = a better, stranger world.
Project location: San Francisco, CA
5 x 7 print of an image from the Butoh Swimsuit Calendar Project, mailed to you
A copy of the Butoh Swimsuit Calendar, mailed to you
Participate in a Butoh procession (probably in 2010 sometime) led by one of the calendar's Butoh luminaries, in San Francisco, Portland or possibly Eureka, California. Includes costume to borrow, makeup and some simple coaching.
Be the guest of honor at the Butoh Swimsuit Calendar party (in San Francisco in November or December, details TBA).
Special Butoh performance for you and your friends, involving one or more of the calendar's participants. We'll figure out how to get you to this show, or how this show gets to you.

A physical actor, writer and artist based in San Francisco. This is a very early version of an artistic biography... Summarizing my whole life in the time I can give to this is not happening. So - here's a snapshot of Monday, August 24, 2009, the day I joined Kickstarter.
In the evening, I met with a friend I have known since pre-school. For years, both of us have been writing novels about a chain of insane mental institutions that take over the world... once upon a time, these books were the same project, and we were collaborating intensively. Now he lives on the east coast, and we only connect every few months.
Earlier in the day, I did administrative work for the Butoh Swimsuit Calendar project. That's something I would like to become a kickstarter project. We're accepting submissions through September 26th, 2009, if anyone's interested... drop me a line.
In the morning, I did location scouting for the acrobatic stilt workshop I will be teaching here in San Francisco, near the end of September. And before that, I helped get my two little nephews ready for pre-school.
That'll do for now.
