NXNE Report, part (i)
Hello and greetings from Toronto!
We just wanted to let you guys know that the festival has been a great success for us so far - a huge and heartfelt thank you to each of you for getting us here. We've already played our first two shows of the week, and tonight Daniel, Benji and I are playing our last gig of the festival - just as Flaming Lips are coming off stage nearby. We've already had some people contact us to say we're their after party of choice, so we're looking forward to another good night, playing to a good mix of both new and friendly faces!
So far, crowds here have been both incredibly supportive and very enthusiastic. We've spent the nights when we've come off stage talking to people from all parts of the world - from local bands we met before, to Irish people who have moved to the city and want to hear accents from home, to the very sweet French men who had infinite patience with the way we strung sentences together in their language.
It's also been a great opportunity for us to find new bands and listen to some mind-blowing live shows. We're particularly looking forward to seeing some of the acts playing in Yonge-Dundas Square tonight (which are free, if any of you have friends in the area).
Even our dramatic moments have proved what a great city Toronto is. Daniel lost his wallet on Thursday night, only to have it safely back in his hand again by Friday evening! We couldn't swear to it, but we think the person who had it actually added a couple of extra dollars while they had it...
Mostly, we're thrilled to be playing together as a band again. With Benji living in London and Daniel and I living in San Francisco, we get to play shows together all too rarely. It's been nice to set a few hours aside each day to play the new songs from the album together and think about what kind of live set we can offer an audience.
It's also given us the chance to do some scheming with regards to our next tour. At the risk of saying too much before anything is set in stone, we hear mainland Europe is just lovely in the Fall.
We're off now to enjoy another run through the set before we head into Toronto for our last night in the city. We're looking forward to sending you all the postcards we've written for you, or the posters we printed this week, or arranging your online shows very soon.
Take care and we hope you're all enjoying a great weekend,
Kathryn, (with Daniel and Benji)
