NXNE Report, part (i)

Update #4 · Jun 16, 2012 · comment

Hello and greetings from Toronto!

We just wanted to let you guys know that the festival has been a great success for us so far - a huge and heartfelt thank you to each of you for getting us here. We've already played our first two shows of the week, and tonight Daniel, Benji and I are playing our last gig of the festival - just as Flaming Lips are coming off stage nearby. We've already had some people contact us to say we're their after party of choice, so we're looking forward to another good night, playing to a good mix of both new and friendly faces!

So far, crowds here have been both incredibly supportive and very enthusiastic. We've spent the nights when we've come off stage talking to people from all parts of the world - from local bands we met before, to Irish people who have moved to the city and want to hear accents from home, to the very sweet French men who had infinite patience with the way we strung sentences together in their language.

It's also been a great opportunity for us to find new bands and listen to some mind-blowing live shows. We're particularly looking forward to seeing some of the acts playing in Yonge-Dundas Square tonight (which are free, if any of you have friends in the area).

Even our dramatic moments have proved what a great city Toronto is. Daniel lost his wallet on Thursday night, only to have it safely back in his hand again by Friday evening! We couldn't swear to it, but we think the person who had it actually added a couple of extra dollars while they had it...

Mostly, we're thrilled to be playing together as a band again. With Benji living in London and Daniel and I living in San Francisco, we get to play shows together all too rarely. It's been nice to set a few hours aside each day to play the new songs from the album together and think about what kind of live set we can offer an audience.

It's also given us the chance to do some scheming with regards to our next tour. At the risk of saying too much before anything is set in stone, we hear mainland Europe is just lovely in the Fall.

We're off now to enjoy another run through the set before we head into Toronto for our last night in the city. We're looking forward to sending you all the postcards we've written for you, or the posters we printed this week, or arranging your online shows very soon.

Take care and we hope you're all enjoying a great weekend,

Kathryn, (with Daniel and Benji)

Each and every one of you has been amazing and helped us exceed our target.  We've booked three shows in Toronto so far, and hope to fill in the time between them dancing and smiling and meeting every Canadian we can.

Everyone should have received an email about their rewards at this stage, if you haven't please just drop us a line at iamnotlefthanded@gmail.com and we'll sort you out.

Many, many thanks,

 - Kathryn, Daniel & Benji

Making Plans

Update #1 · May 29, 2012 · comment

A huge thanks to each and every one of you who has helped us get this far.  We're 77% of the way there, so the finish line is in sight.  We've already started booking flights, writing set lists and contacting the Canadian press.

We found out that we're going to be the only Irish band at the festival, so there's a heavy responsibility to represent the country resting on our shoulders (possibly just in the whiskey drinking category...)  We've also been asked to play a second show at NXNE by our good friends at Indie Week, who are running a stage during the festival.  All in all, it's shaping up to be a great time.

We could not be doing this without you guys, your support means so much to us.  Don't forget to tune in to our album launch show at www.iamnotlefthanded.com on Sunday, June 3rd at 1pm PST/9pm GMT so we can thank you in person.

And if you know anyone else who needs a pair of socks, a copy of the album or a postcard from Toronto, do point them this way.  We're so close to making this happen, we won't let you down.

 - Kathryn, Daniel & Benji
