How It Started
Earlier this year, PeRPLeXa (one of the prominent “Space Rock” bands) released their fourth album, Gone Beyond. I instantly fell in love with the album (with Rambling Song being my favorite cut) and felt compelled to offer to produce a simple music video for them. I interviewed several great directors. However, when I heard Bradley Miles pitch his idea, I knew I had found a director who could really make this video “special”.
Enter, Director Bradley Miles
Bradley Miles hails from Brooklyn, New York and has directed several film projects. His work has been on display in Berlin, NY, LA as well as Atlanta and Chicago and was recently chosen as a Sundance finalist, often recognized for its defining characteristics of mood, color and theme.
After listening to Rambling Song, he fell in love with the song as well... sparking a burst of inspiration.
Beyond a Music Video: A Musical Vignette
Bradley came up with a brilliant concept for the video. Incorporating two worlds, Tim Burton-esque characters drift through an animated one (inspired by the Gone Beyond album cover) searching for love and meaning, while real actors live a similar story in the world we know- showing that in one way or another… we’re all connected.

The way Bradley laid out his vision, it seems more like an artistic portrait than a video. Therefore, the original plan was altered and we decided to this thing “right” and create a high quality, professional production- hence, the short film (musical vignette) Shadow and Light.
Enter, Digital Artist James Levy
When Bradley saw some renderings from James Levy, he was instantly impressed- we found the perfect choice to perform the digital designs for Shadow and Light.
A graduate form OTIS college of Art and Design, James helped to redesign campaigns for AT&T, Target and many others. He has worked with prominent company such as Motion Theory and Psyop.tv and his designs have been consistently featured on motionagrapher.com.

Creating a "professional quality" production doesn’t come cheap. A music video funded by a record company can cost around $100 thousand... the typical movie you see in the theater or on TV costs well over $10 million… and an animated film is usually made for over $100 million! We are looking to make Shadow and Light for much less, but we still have a decent amount of production expenses. This is where we really could use your help...
We need to raise a minimum of $18,000 in contributions… and that’s with our cast, crew and whole production team agreeing to work for a SEVERELY reduced pay rate. Every dollar goes towards making Shadow and Light into a professional quality production- set design, insurance, location fees, camera, lights, equipment, feeding cast and crew, sets, editing, animation, deliverables, etc…
Everybody involved is VERY excited to begin production and we all sincerely appreciate your participation… even a small donation goes a long way. We can’t make this happen without you, so we THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts.

Mike has been a long-time supporter of Independent Film and Unsigned Music Artists. In 1997 he formed Stage 9 Productions to help undiscovered music find its way into TV, Film and Commercials.
Originally from Detroit, Michigan, he now resides in Los Angeles, California. He is involved in several civic activities/social causes, and is also a competitive bodybuilder.
