Self-published in collaboration with Folktale Records, Terro(a)r is a fully illustrated book of poetry and prose written by (duo OKCollective) author Hilal Omar Al Jamal in collaboration with illustrator Kristina Collantes. A musician as well as an author, Al Jamal has published poetry in several magazines and has released 3 albums of music through the record label Folktale Records. Terro(a)r is Jamal's first major literary publication. The book is fully illustrated by artist Kristina Collantes, who enjoys a reputation as one of Southern California's most prolific illustrators. Widely published, Collantes' work is regularly featured in the magazine The New Yorker, not to mention a variety of other venues.

The duo hope to reach a minimum goal of $350 to fund the publication of the book. The total budget for publication of this professionally printed and bound volume is $700. With the support of friends, loved ones, fellow artists, and Folktale Records, Al Jamal and Collantes hope to have the book ready for distribution by October of 2012. Rewards for pledges include a poster of artwork featured in the book, a copy of the book, and/or a copy of "The Terror," Al Jamal's (aka Brother Mitya) 7" record, with beautiful packaging designed by Collantes (vinyl with Mp3 downloads by Folktale Records).

you make my belly grumble, songbirds.

yeller-bellied birds. 

hush. twee…twee…tweek.

jitter bug. teet-teet, i reply,

teething, seething with song, 

writhing with lyrics.

songs of swallows swallowed,

forked-tales, forked-tongues.

sung fictions of love or terro(a)r,

love, naught but terro(a)r.

crippling, draumatizing love,

sung from the diaphragm.

lily-bird like lady-dog

in a livid bog forever-rusting

tree-limb leaf-like swimming bug, 

tug of war that tore her dress 

to press those rosy hips to his lips; 

it makes my belly ache a little

liver burst and spilt a verse,

she caught me by my flaps of skin to say,

“help me, little kid,”

and i replied, “help me?” 

flustered like a stuttered wing

clipped or snipped unfluttering—

the lift is less than—

catch my drift to sea?

we’re boats caught in an avalanche.
