Dream Seeding is an all ages exhibition of creativity that somehow shows us a more compassionate & ecologically culture is possible.
Dream Seeding for Changing Realities All Ages Art Show will feature over 120 works of art from children, teens and adults from around Southeast Michigan, and will run in the Michigan Union (530 S. State St.) in Ann Arbor for the month of March.
Dream Seeding is a call for art, in any feasible medium, from artists of any age or skill level, that, in any way imaginable, helps us to see that a more peaceful, just and ecologically sustainable community and world can be created. We will have drawings, paintings, photos, woodwork, fabric art, mixed media, a 6 foot papier maché turtle, and more open for public viewing in the Michigan Union Art Lounge from early morning until late evening daily.
We will host a joyous all ages public reception with food, stories from Jill Halpern, music with Curtis Glatter, Nick Wickstrom & others, and dance with Irena Nagler and her troupe Nightfire on Saturday March 19th from 6 to 9 pm.
Most of the kids' art will also be a part of the Sword into Plowshares Peace Center and Art Gallery's Visions of Peace Children's Peace Art Show in Detroit in April & May.
To seek out submissions, as well as to inspire folks to make art for the show, we have been making appearances in local media, sending out press releases and around 20 postcards (including to over 150 public and private elementary, middle & high school art teachers in and around Washtenaw County), posting & handing out over 200 flyers, sending out emails to thousand of people, hosting "art makin' parties", and more.
Our wonderful co-sponsors, Eugene V. Debs Cooperative House, Michigan Peaceworks, and especially Crazy Wisdom Bookstore and Tearoom have contributed in-kind to spreading the word about Dream Seeding through email, web and print advertising. Use of the gallery space has been donated by the University of Michigan. The other expenses for printing postcards & flyers ($220), postage ($88), "art makin' parties" ($32), and food (hummus, veggies, fruit, bean dip, chips, cheese, crackers, cookies, brownies, lemonade, coffee & tea, totaling $372) for the approximately 150 people attending our reception (which we are required to purchase from the university's catering services) entirely comes from donations. There are hundreds of work hours organizing Dream Seeding are donated by lead organizer Christopher Bednash, and various teachers, moms, and helpers.
