The Parsons Ave. Community Garden is built upon a vision to foster community growth and facilitate community cohesion through the design and implementation of a community garden. The garden is meant to be a multifunctional space that assumes many roles. It is a therapeutic place for families, a dog park, lunch pavilion and community gathering space. This new milieu for community interaction also functions as an educational opportunity advocating for sustainable practices. We plan to incorporate accessible graphic information regarding some of the proposed sustainable design elements such as a gathering space made from recycled concrete, rain barrels as a storm water management element and planters which serve as a place for local community members and restaurants to grow food for themselves. The multitude of benefits gleaned from planting wildflowers and grasses as a source of food for birds, bees and butterflies is another fantastic community benefit. We aren't just creating a new place, we're working to empower a neighborhood to become a community. The start of something new brings the hope of something great.
