Jamboree Time is a new, captivating, 3D board game with an innovative concept of game play. This game is so UNIQUE it's in a CLASS of it's own!! There are 2 Editions of Jamboree Time. A PARTY Edition and a FAMILY edition. I have recently finished prototype #2 and I'm ready to introduce Jamboree Time to the public.

My prototypes are for the Party Edition, so I will be typing mostly about this edition. Both game boards are the same, the main change will be the spaces on the board.
2 - 8 Players
INTRODUCTION (Party Edition)
Drunk Joe and his friends are getting ready to go to their favorite concert of the year, JAMBOREE TIME. It's a 4 day weekend concert with their favorite bands, camping and partying with old and new friends. This year they decided to have a contest. They agreed to complete a checklist before they could go into the concert. The first one to reach the stage wins the contest. You are invited to bring your friends to (pronounced Va-ver-ka) Veverka Valley Campgrounds at Jamboree Time and join in the fun. (Will change slightly for Family Edition)
Complete the checklist and be the first one to reach the stage. You must roll an EXACT number to get on stage and win.
HOW TO PLAY
- Choose a token and roll to see who goes first.
- Lowest roll goes first
- Play passes to the right (counter-clockwise)
- Roll the dice and move that many spaces
- Follow the instructions on that space.
ABOUT THE GAME (Party Edition)Jamboree Time was designed as a way to bring our favorite concert home and enjoy it more than once a year. This game is made with a rule so drinkers and designated drivers (or non-drinkers) could play together. I’ll tell you the rule shortly.
Most of the game is played in the campgrounds. You are able to move in any direction to land on your objectives. You can move in one direction per roll. It helps to count your spaces in all directions then decide which way you want to go.
There are, however, two paths that you can only go One Way. These paths will be clearly marked on the board with an arrow or a one way sign. There are also two areas that you will only travel on once. Those areas are the first few spaces by your home and the concert path to the stage.
There are several stop signs on the board. They also have a note that tells you what the stop sign is for. It can mean that you are trying to enter a One Way path the wrong way. The entrance to the final path to the stage has a stop sign and it says Checklist Only, which means you can't go down that path until your checklist is complete.
On the concert path there is another stop sign at the security checkpoint. All players must stop here and lose your turn waiting in line (regardless of the Edition you are playing). The reason is to give the other players an extra roll to get their checklist finished and make a break for the finish line. It helps to make the game a little closer and fun for those that are behind. Don't forget you must roll an exact number to win the game.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE?
The time it takes to play will depend on how many players you have. With only 2-3 players, it may take from 30 minutes to about an hour. We played with 6 players and it took about 2-3 hours. If you want to play a SHORTER GAME, the checklist will have 3 sections on it.
The first two will be the 24 items you need to find. This will be in two sections so you can shorten your game if you wish by playing either the top or bottom section. The third section will be where you put your prestige marks (for the Party Edition explained below). In the Family Edition these spaces will be part of the checklist, so you can decide if you want to include them in a shorter game.
SPACESThe spaces you need for your checklist are blue. The checklist has 24 things to do on it (30 in the Family Edition). Some of the spaces that you will need to land on include Pitch a Tent, Get you Concert Ticket, Collect Concert Papers and some other souvenirs you would want to take home with you. You will also need to find Drunk Joe and his friends and check them off your list. They will be roaming around the campgrounds trying to finish their checklists.
The green spaces are the campsites of some friends we have met over the years. (These spaces will be part of the checklist in the Family Edition. There are 6 of them.) In the Party Edition these spaces represent your Prestige. The longer you’ve been going to Jamboree Time, the more Prestige you have. Every time you land on these spaces you put a tally mark next to that campsite’s name. Leave room for multiple marks in that square on your checklist. You DO NOT need to land on all of these spaces. However, the more you land on these spaces the more you can make your friends drink.
Example: If Jesse James lands on (pronounced Va ver ka) Veverka Village first, then everyone drinks because no one has it marked yet. If JT lands on Veverka Village the next turn, then everyone but Jesse James and JT must drink. If JT lands on Veverka Village for a second time a few turns later, then Jesse James will drink 1 (because he has been there once) and everyone that has not been there will have 2.
Landing on the same space as another player: This was originally an optional challenge rule. We have had so much fun with it during the testing stages that we have decided to make it a permanent part of the game. Here’s how it works:
When player 1 lands on the same space as player 2, player 1 moves player 2 to any Jamboree Time (Red spaces) on the board. If player 2 is moved to a Jamboree Time space that player 3 is on, then player 2 moves player 3 to another Jamboree Time space and so on. The only time that you can be on the same space as another player is when you are in the home area and when you are in the concert area. If you get moved to the Jamboree Time space in the concert area, you MUST move back toward the campground on your next roll, unless you have your checklist complete of course.
The rest of the spaces consist of other things that could happen, and if you’ve been there, they probably have!!! These spaces could be good like “Hold Down The Fort A Storm’s A Coming, Go Again” or “Win Funnel Fest, Go again”. They could also be not so good like “Traffic Jam, Lose Turn” or “Lose Funnel Fest, Lose Turn”. You might twist your ankle on one turn, then meet Bobby B and borrow his Hillbilly Crutch on the next. There are camping game spaces that you will win or lose, like “Win Beer Pong, Go Again” and “Lose Beer Pong, Lose Turn”. There is a giant water slide that will take you all the way down the hill. There are over 100 spaces to provide you with hours of enjoyment with your family and friends.
We have SPACE STORIES that we will be putting on our website. The Space Stories will give a little insight as to why some of the spaces are what they are. Not all spaces will have a story, since some of them don’t need one like “Pitch a Tent”. It’s obvious what that means. We would like to add these stories to the instructions as a stretch goal.
Oh yeah, the rule in the Party Edition that allows all to play together is this: When you land on a Lose Turn space, you DO NOT lose your turn if you’re drinking. If you are the DD or don’t drink then you will still lose your turn. So if you are partying, then it’s ok to land on these spaces because you will be taking a drink instead of losing your turn. The only exception is on the concert path. All players must stop and lose turn at the security checkpoint.
HOW BIG IS THE GAME?
The game when open is approximately 24" x 24". Jamboree Time folds into a 24" long x 10" wide x 4" deep case. The game currently weighs under 1 pound. This may change slightly once we decide on the final materials for the game.
GETTING READY FOR PRODUCTION
One board game manufacturer that I had met with said he loved my game (he never heard of the Jamboree), but from a manufacturers standpoint, it was the most difficult board game he had ever seen to produce. He said he couldn’t even quote me a price without doing a lot of research first. He suggested I start with a traditional flat game board and then make this board down the road as a deluxe edition.
After much consideration, I decided that my 3D hills and the concept of the game & game play made my game unique and I would do the research myself. I began meeting with other types of companies to start putting together a budget and a plan for producing the game myself. I am close to the completion of this stage.
I am still working on the artwork for the game. I will post some pictures as I get them finished.
I have some materials coming in for the final look of the case. The case will seal around the entire edge. My prototype has only a few pieces of velcro, which works fine, but I’m still looking at other options for the seal. I’m considering velcro, a thin magnetic strip or a zipper if I can find a way to permanently attach it to the case. I will let you know soon.
I have met with several companies and I am close to deciding on what material to use for the hills. My prototypes are made of styrofoam, but I would like to have them made of a durable plastic. I have a few more companies to meet this month so I will keep you updated as the final decisions on materials and parts are made. I will be making the game here in Youngstown Ohio, with the exception of the custom parts and pieces that I need.
Having said that…..
I chose kickstarter because the cost of producing a small run of games would limit our ability to make Jamboree Time affordable for everyone. We are currently looking at a retail price of about $69.95 per game. I’d like to bring that price down at least $10. Kickstarter is an excellent way to gage support and give me an idea on how many games I should make. The more materials we order the better the pricing.
My goal is to raise $25,000 to help pay for the casting molds and custom materials needed to make Jamboree Time. This goal will give me the minimum necessary to complete Jamboree Time as a quality top shelf product.
Many of the decisions that need to be made will depend on the funds raised for the game. As we move into the fundraising stage, we will be able to make final decisions on the game parts and materials. I will be posting updates on Kickstarter and Facebook as they are accomplished. I am still in the process of building our website for the game (www.jamboreetime.com).
If we reach beyond our goal, we’ve planned ahead for a few upgrades to the game.
Upgrade Tokens. Currently we are looking at having people tokens (shoulder & head), each token will be a different color. At this stretch goal we can upgrade to 8 custom tokens such as: Cooler, Beer Pong Cup, Cowboy Hat and we have a list that we will choose the best tokens from (of course there will be updates)
Upgrade Instructions. At this stretch goal we can upgrade the multifold Instruction sheets to a nice 6”x 3” Instruction Booklet that will fit in the compartment in the center of the board. If we do really well we will add another stretch goal to include the Space Stories in the booklet.
Upgrade Checklist Pad sheets from 20 to 40. If we hit this stretch, we’d like to say thank you by adding a bigger checklist pad to the game.
I have a few more ideas beyond that, but I’d rather focus on one goal at a time.

I’d like to take a few minutes to give you some history of the series of events leading to the inception of Jamboree Time. Some of the above mentioned spaces came from these experiences.
I reluctantly started going to the Jamboree back in 1999. I say reluctantly because it was a 4 day Country Music Concert. I just wasn’t into Country Music. I went because my friends and I had a T-Shirt company and I wanted to sell our shirts there. We came up with some crazy fun shirts for the show. Long story short…. I work all year to pass the time till the next Jamboree!!!
In 2005, I got a call from Drunk Joe. He said we need to do a checklist shirt for Jamboree. It was such a good Idea we got to work on it and finished the list in a day. And so was born the Checklist Challenge. The first couple years the checklist was very difficult to complete, but it was a lot of fun trying. I personally have only completed 3 out of the 6 that we have made.
My first 10 years of the Jamboree was all about the people. I loved meeting my neighbors, both in the campgrounds and in the concert. It is a great time hanging out with them every year!!! I finally became a Country Music fan in 2008.
This is also the year that my kids kept asking “what time is it? I’m bored, when do we go in? What time is it?” Without thinking I answered. “The only two times that matter are when you get here and when you leave. The rest is JAMBOREE TIME!!!” This is when we started answering the “What time is it?” question with “Jamboree Time”.
During the concert in 2008, we got hit with a microburst!!! Every year it storms or rains at least 1 time during the week that we are camping. Well this year, I had just bought 2 new canopies for my T shirt stand. The microburst ripped them up and tumbled them 20 or so yards till they hit a fence. I was not happy! After the storm, I decided to do some damage control and took the 2 busted up canopies and made one good one for the rest of the weekend. This actually worked out well, my combined canopy was sturdier than any canopy that I’ve ever had. The microburst destroyed a lot of campsites. We were left with a few downed tents and broken shade canopies.
This was the year my friend Bobby B came to the show for the first time. His first night he tore his MCL and couldn’t walk on his leg. We had to help, but how? Joe said we should make him a crutch. I looked at our pile of wreckage from the storm. I took a few poles and some duct tape and went to work. Before long I had made him a crutch. And so was born the Hillbilly Crutch. Sounds crazy, but he used it all weekend and it has been coming back every year since. It is sturdy, effective and somewhat comfortable! A few months later I also made a Hillbilly Cane for another friend. He used it for at least 2 months. It also has been traveling with us to the Jamboree…..Just in case.
I have been taking my kids to the Jamboree for several years now. We leave early so we can camp and hang out together for a few days before the show starts. I take them home on Wednesday (the day before the concert begins). It takes several hours round trip. In 2010, on my way back from dropping off the kids, I realized that Jamboree Time was a total of 12 letters. That would be a perfect fit for a watch, since we answered the infamous “what time is it” question that way already.
When I got back to the campsite, I tore off the sleeves of my T Shirt and got a marker. The Jamboree is like no other, and so the watch had to be the same (as well as the game…which I believe it is!!). I drew out the watch on my sleeve and added my JT logo to the center to make the hands. My friends were curious as to what I was doing, so when I was done I showed them. They LOVED it. Next thing I know, I have a pile of sleeves on my lap. And so was born the Jamboree Time Watch. Last year (2011) I had them made on silicone wristbands with a watch head. They were a big hit at the show, even a couple of the performers ended up with them.
The Sunday after thanksgiving 2011, I was hanging out with my daughter and my very good friend Jesse, who was moving far away on Monday. We had just finished playing a board game and it was only 8ish. I remember thinking “It’s early and I want to do something else fun before he leaves, but what?’ Then it hit me ….. JAMBOREE TIME…THE GAME!!!! They LOVED it!!! We got to work right away and made a list of spaces. All of our spaces related to things we do at the Jamboree. A couple hours later, we played our first game on a couple sheets of paper taped together. It was a lot of fun!!! That whole week I couldn’t focus on anything but making the game.
CREATING THE GAME
The game was designed to be played as a drinking game, as a non-drinking game, and as a game that can be played as both. So the designated driver can still play without drinking. We also figured that if we change some of the spaces, then we can have a “Family Edition” as well as a “Party Edition”
When I made my first prototype, I didn’t know how I was going to make it or what it was going to look like. I only had an idea and just jumped in. I was very pleased with my first prototype. I started with a board that I had intended to be round like a watch. I ended up finding a decent size octagon and decided to go with that. Since we camp in the hills, I thought it would be cool to actually have hills as the game board that we could travel up and down. This would make my game design original and unlike the traditional flat game boards.
I liked the corners of the octagon and thought that since it’s a drinking game, I could put some cozies there. This served 2 purposes, The first to hold your beverage, and the second to stop the hills from being crushed when the game is closed. I also figured that since it is a game I want to take camping, it should have a case. It was my first proto-type, so I decided to use one of the windows from a storm damaged tent for my case. I printed up the spaces and taped them to the board. I was ready to show my family and some friends.
I’ve spent the last six months working out the details of the game. I’ve played several test games, and I have to say most games have been very close. By the time someone won, most players either had their checklist done or only had 1 or 2 things left to find.
As the project grew, I shared the game with my family and friends to see what they thought about it. The main objective was to get feedback, whether good or bad, I needed honesty. I have shown it to around 100 people including a few people that could be integral in the production parts and pieces of the game. I received almost all positive feedback. In fact, there were only two people that I showed my game to that had no interest at all in board games. So they didn’t even look at the game. This was the only feedback I got that wasn’t positive. Oh and one of my friends didn’t like one of the Jamboree Time Spaces. The only reason was because every time one of us (there were 6 playing) landed on her token, we moved her to the SAME Jamboree Time space. It was the space on one of the One Way streets lol.
This was the first major test of the Party Edition. It was very successful and the game was again a close one. This test was also the first to be played by friends that go to the Jamboree with us. I knew that they would love it.
Most of the test games I played were with friends that had never been to the Jamboree. These test games were more important to me than playing with friends that went to the Jamboree. If someone played that had never been to the Jamboree and liked it….. THAT told me that I had a good product that would do well outside of the Jamboree.
