A recital premiering choral, vocal, piano, and chamber music, directed by the composer. 8 PM Sept. 11, Trinity Church, Princeton, NJ
"Turning in the Light" will be a recital of music I have composed over the past 10 years. It will take place at 8 PM Sunday, September 11 at Trinity Church, Princeton, NJ.
Eric Plutz, principal organist for Princeton University Chapel, will play works for solo piano and accompany the choir and soloists. The recital will also include two works for piano, oboe, and cello.
My daughter Maggie Kadel* will sing three English folk songs which I arranged for soprano, piano, cello, and recorder. Mezzo-soprano Linda Mindlin will perform a set of poems by the contemporary poet Rita Dove.
The choir, under my direction, will perform a pair of French folk songs arranged for choir, piano, and recorder, and a setting of the Shakespeare sonnet "Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer's Day." An ensemble of solo singers (Rebeca Mariman, Magdalen Kadel, Carolann Buff, Christopher Hodson, and Devin Mariman) will join the choir to sing a madrigal setting of "Now Is the Month of Maying" and the Gloria and Credo from my setting of the Mass.
The money I am requesting will allow me to pay the soloists and instrumentalists something resembling a reasonable amount. The goal I am setting for this Kickstarter campaign will go a long way towards this, and any additional amount over the goal will help defray my family's considerable investment in the project, and allow me to beef up compensation for the musicians.
*The above named musicians plan to perform with us, but unforeseen circumstances could require changes in personnel.
