Update #9: thanks and 2011...

Posted on June 19, 2011

this is a special note to those of you who supported us in our 2010 fundraising drive- we couldn't have made it with out you! really - our trailer would still be stuck in the mud in Queens...

We have launched another kickstarter to help us out with another season which promises to be bigger and better than ever before. We have JUST 18 HOURS to reach this years' goal.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/195166246/the-lifesize-mousetraps-2011-tour-powered-by-veget

We're going green with a veggie oil bus and we are fundraising with the goal of financial sustainability so we don't ever have to do another kickstarter again!

Some of you have already made GENEROUS pledges - THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!

So if you would like to help us bring our very special take on Science & Engineering to kids everywhere please head on over to this years'  site, read a bit about our "triangle of sustainability", make a donation, and share the link.

do it for science, do it for the kids, do it for the air you breath, and do it for BIG FUN!

Update #8: Life size Mousetrap 2011 tour powered by Waste Veggie Oil bus!!

Posted on May 27, 2011

Hello friends, Many of you know that the Life Size Mousetrap is my life's work.   What you might not know is that the Mousetrap is ready to take the next step in the evolution of this project.    I am building a sustainable touring package and I can't do it without your help. I explain in depth how I am doing this in the Mousetrap's 2nd Kickstarter campaign. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/195166246/the-lifesize-mousetraps-2011-tour-powered-by-veget Please take a moment to read it, donate what you can, and share the link so I can bring the Life Size Mousetrap to kids and adults everywhere. We are returning to the Henry Ford Museum and the New York Hall of Science with the Maker Faire and are currently in negotiation with the Carnegie Science Center and ToonSEUM to bring the Mousetrap to Pittsburgh.

Our mission of sustainability includes ECO-Friendly Touring with the purchase of a Waste Veggie Oil bus as well as securing funding that would ensure we don't have to keep asking you for your hard earned money year after year.  Why is it important that we get the Life Size Mousetrap to audiences across the country? In this day of "virtual" and "digital" experiences, the Mousetrap provides an engaging, real life encounter with the physical properties that govern our world.

Here's what Tim O'Reilly, founder of O'Reilly Media says about the Life Size Mousetrap."Lifesize Mousetrap provides a great opportunity to see real world applications of physics, spectacle and problem solving. Perhaps you remember endless hours of fussing with cardboard and plastic parts trying to get the mousetrap together to catch the mouse. Mostly, I recall that the build was way more interesting than the actual game. Over the years, Mark Perez has built the life size version of Mousetrap along with his band of merry Rubes. They’ve taken the show on the road to Maker Faires in Austin, Detroit and San Mateo. People keep asking for more, and so they’ve set up a Kickstarter campaign to fund a traveling version of Life size Mousetrap to bring to schools and demonstrate their festive take on the game.

"I thank you for your continued support over the 17 years of my life that this project has consumed. This year is shaping up to be the most exciting season yet and we hope you'll be along for the ride!"  http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/195166246/the-lifesize-mousetraps-2011-tour-powered-by-veget

Update #6: thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Posted on August 24, 2010

thank you to all who made our goal a reality...

we have busy, busy, busy since returning from a GREAT show in Detroit. A big huge thank you to the Henry Ford Museum for hosting us and to the Maker Faire for bringing us along!

we've just about received all the pledges and are getting ready to start making good on the thank you gifts. look for an email from us just as soon as we figure all this stuff out. we have over 200 backers so this is no small task... we thank you for your patience!

The first thing this funding has allowed us to purchase is brand new tires and brakes for the trailer! We won't have to replace them for another 10 years and every truck driver we've talked to about hauling the trailer's first question has been "how are the brakes and tires" so we know it was a well placed expenditure!

We tried our very best but it looks like we won't make it to Pittsburgh this time around... we really wanted to and our friends in the 'burgh went to extraordinary lengths to make something work but it just wasn't in the cards. maybe next year(hint, hint)??? You guys will just have to come and see us in New York!

Speaking of New York... we are so very excited and are moving full steam ahead with our logistics for the show! Please come and send all your friends to see us, we'll be at the Maker World Faire at the NY Hall of Science in Queens Sept 25-26th. We're pulling out all the stops to make this the best Lifesize Mousetrap show ever.

Please join us at facebook too, search Lifesize Mousetrap and friend us today!

Update #5: Maker City Faire at the Henry Ford Museum

Posted on August 4, 2010

we had a wonderful time at the Henry Ford Museum with the Maker Faire! it looks to have been a smashing success. we had lots of successful runs and we had a day to check out the museum and greenfield village! sooooo many amazing things, the bus rosa parks refused to give her seat up on, bucky fuller's dymaxion house, thomas edison's laboratory, a ride in a working model T.... whew!

the feedback has been overwhelming, even the little old ladies at the Kroger(supermarket) recognized us from the news and loved us! we hope they have us back next year...

this is it, 48 hours to reach our goal, please make a pledge if you haven't and if you have please consider giving us just one more mile!

here are some pictures of our trip...

The Life Size Mousetrap is the classic board game miniature turned into a life-size spectacle!

"A colorful assemblage of kinetic sculptures fantastically handcrafted into a giant 25 TON Rube-Gold-berg machine!" This classic contraption's chain reaction applies Newtonian physics, luck, and bowling balls to drop a 2 TON bank safe on a car! As an antidote for an increasingly digital world, the Mousetrap can offer a real time engagement with simple physics, spectacle, and fun, rolled into the worlds only traveling production of its kind.
