We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Project Dance! will expose children of all ages, cultures and economic backgrounds to the joy of Hip Hop Dance. Dance changes things!

Through Kickstarter, it is my hope to offer Dance classes to children of all ages, races, and economic backgrounds.

I currently teach Hip Hop Dance classes all across the state of Kentucky at community centers, libraries and schools.  I also host a week long dance camp in the summer that is designed to motivate and inspire young people. In as little as a week, I have witnessed extraordinary transformations in children that entered the camp shy and lacking confidence.  I'd like to extend the opportunity to participate beyond a week so that less fortunate children can enjoy the positive benefits of expressive art, physical fitness, and confidence building.   It is my dream to be able to offer full-time Dance classes to students, that due to financial need would not otherwise be able to attend these classes.

Project Dance! would allow me to create a program that would give 20 children, a year long dance opportunity.  The 20 students selected would come from all areas of the city.  Each Project Dance! student will take dance classes weekly for a full 10-month school year, with the culmination being a performance / showcase at the end program.  This year long program will not  only help to build confidence and self-esteem, but it will set students on a path to gain valuable dance experience.  These 20 students will be selected by a team of respected individuals in the Arts community, through an application process.

I am including a video of classes that I've taught around Kentucky and Indiana, a link to a recent hip hop summer camp that I hosted at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts http://youtu.be/PbSKoD5PJoY and a link where I taught a group of young people for National Dance Day http://youtu.be/KRZaR8Q0omY.  All of the classes that I teach in the community centers and libraries are 100% free to the student; and nearly 40% of the students who attended the hip hop dance camp came from families that were unable to meet the financial obligation, those students were able to attend the camp at no charge to their family.

Dance Can Make a Difference in the Life of a Child.  I appreciate your consideration.

Sincerely,

Safiyyah Rasool
