Musicians for Music 2.0 is a new kind of organization that will help fund music discovery web sites and technologies.
This Kickstarter campaign is to cover the costs to print and ship presentations to 25+ musicians to ask for their initial investment.
A bit of history on how the idea came to be...
As the power shifts from record labels, radio stations, record stores, and music magazines to online corporations like Amazon, Apple, Google, and Myspace, there are a growing number of music discovery web sites and technologies that can help music fans around the world discover music.
From mp3 blogs to podcasts, music recommendation engines to mobile apps, live event tools to music social networks, curated mixes to internet radio, this is clearly the future, but the majority of these sites are done as labors of love and not yet making money during this time of change.
We need to fund the best of these new ideas until they can generate their own revenue from advertising, grants, sponsorships, merchandise, donors, etc.
With foundations and venture capital firms not always an option, we turn to musicians who succeeded through the business models of the last 50 years can help launch Musicians for Music 2.0 and foster the business models of the next 50 years.
Through these taste maker sites and technologies, fans are directed straight to musician's sites, who can then have a direct relationship with their fans, through mp3 sales, ticket sales, donations, merchandise, and licensing, cutting out the many “middle men.”
If musicians receive the majority of profits from their work, they could live comfortably making music they want to make vs. aiming for mainstream appeal.

Our next step is to submit a presentation, business plan, budget, and public relations plan in front of 25 successful musicians, with a goal of attracting 12 for the launch of this program in 2010.
Musicians for Music 2.0 will incorporate the best elements from non-profit foundations, venture funds, tech incubators, and advertising networks. The organization will fund taste maker sites and technologies can apply for and receive funding so they can work on turning part-time pursuits into full-time jobs and help more people discover more new music.
Please help us to cover the costs of this color printing and mailings. We need to raise $1,000 (25 people x $40 per package) and welcome your support to help change the music ecosystem.
