About this project
A jazz octet consisting of Eastman Jazz students will be rehearsing, recording, and performing an original composition by Chad O'Brien.
The composition is a five movement suite depicting a journey from emotionality and chaos to rationality and order; each movement is written in a different style but deals with the same motivic content. The band consists of:
Doug Stone - Tenor Saxophone
Ethan Helm - Alto Saxophone
Garrett Schmidt - Trumpet
Chad O'Brien -Trombone
Chris Ziemba - Piano
Gabe Condon - Guitar
Danny Ziemann - Bass
John Fatum - Drums
We will be rehearsing and getting coached by Eastman faculty throughout December and January. In early February we will hit the Studios at Linden Oaks (one of if not the best studio in this part of the country) to record the suite; in mid to late February, we will put on a live performance at Eastman.
The vast majority of the money raised will go towards the costs of the studio recording and mastering; for one 7-hour day of recording the rates are $120-$140 an hour. Fortunately, because the group will be so well rehearsed, this is all that is needed. All of the money exceeding that cost will be split between the other seven participating musicians. I don't intend to make any profit on this recording; in fact, I am anticipating losing money - I am just asking for you to help reduce that loss. :)
Thank you for your time and consideration! For more information and a blog noting the progress of the composition/rehearsals, check out my website: www.chadobrien.com
(It is important to note that there will not be a physical copy of this music, and the .mp3 files will be copyright-protected; the only way to get this music is to pledge $13 or more on this Kickstarter account)
