The person standing next to you, are they a boy or a girl? What about you? Are you a boy or a girl? You can only pick one, obviously, and you had better get it right. I’m transgender, which complicates things. This show is about that – my identity and experience as a transgender woman – but it’s about other things, too: apologies, surgery, the equations of sex, the weather (metaphorically speaking), boobs, and more.
Storms Beneath Her Skin is my exploration of gender and transgender, as well as an examination of what, exactly, The Surgery (gender reassignment surgery) means. I'm touring the show this summer to Fringe Festivals in Cincinnati (5/29-6/9), Kansas City (7/19-7/29), Minneapolis (8/2-8/12), Indianapolis (8/17-8/26), and Chicago (8/30-9/9). And I need your help!
Travel The Exotic Midwest!
Storms Beneath Her Skin is going on the road before retuning to Chicago in SeptemberSince I'll be driving all around the Midwest (my math says about 2,100 miles, which is almost as far as a drive from New York City to LA) I'm asking for your help. I'm estimating the travel costs to be about $400, which is where you come in.
For $400, you'll help bring Storms Beneath Her Skin to communities who might never have heard from a trans person before. You'll allow LGBTQ folks (and their allies!) to see a narrative on stage that is all-to-often silenced or ignored. You'll help get my story told, and the story of people like me.
