Update #16: The summer of LOVE!

Posted on December 8

Hello  Backers:

We at UAP are allowing ourselves to envision the summer of love, and it is tantalizing!

What we can't wait for:

Light sculptures creating ever changing unique visual images,

Excited people as they discover more about their own backyard,

Curious youth asking question after question, too excited to wait their turn

and of course the insects we will discover right here in the BIG APPLE!

Thanks so much for helping us get to this point, and please continue to share the link as we are truly almost there!

Update #15: Two cool photos from New Orleans, and the final push!

Posted on December 6

Hey backers two cool photos here, as described by Brandon:

Love Motel for Insects: New Orleans Variation and “Wish Tree” was created in August 2011 at the Front Gallery. I had seen versions of "wish trees" on my travels to India, Ireland, England, Mexico and South Korea -  though visually and culturally different, Wish or Prayer Trees are where people had tied pieces of fabric or other symbolic objects to a living tree or bush in the hopes of a blessing or in honor to that living plant. I perceive this action as representing hope and respect for nature. In New Orleans I wanted to do just that, create a sculpture where people and even insects could wish for a better future as well as pay homage to the small tree struggling to grow in the back of the urban gallery. During the show, participants tied several hundred pieces of fabric to the tree - each making their own wish:  a symbol of hope. There are few cities in the United States that have suffered more than New Orleans, yet the city, people and nature remain resilient and keep going…keep living and growing. My hope is that the wishes come true and the environment in New Orleans and all living things there are blessed with a brighter tomorrow.

The second photo is from installation at the Front Gallery. This moth was kind of elderly (in moth terms) with damaged wings - when they first come out of their cocoons they are in great condition then get injured by rain and predators, etc. and live as long as their wings last. This one I could not identify with such ragged wings but it was neat that he came and found shelter for probably his last few days.

Thanks for continuing to spread the word as we make the final push - we are so close to being able to reach our goal!

--- Kim and all of us at UAP

Update #14: A huge bug hug to all those that showed their support at last night's fund-raiser

Posted on December 4

A huge bug hug to all those that showed their support last night at the fund-raiser. There were Love Motel Insect Sculptures (planned for a green roof project), bug music and these great insect themed snacks made by Aurore Hamzaoui.  We are getting there thanks to you! It really means a lot to see so many of you standing behind this project! Thank you and all the best, Brandon
