We made our first goal of $3500! Thank you so much everyone! Now can we reach a second goal of $5000?

Mission and Goal: 

Into The Silent Sea is a Chapman University thesis film written and directed by Andrej Landin, produced by Heather Mcbride and cinematography will be done by Benjamin Fischinger. We are so happy to have Kickstarter as a resource to gather the necessary funding we need to complete this film (and hopefully graduate in May!). 

In order for us to make this film come alive we must raise a minimum of $3500 in the 33 days of our Kickstarter campaign. However, in order for us to fully realize the vision of the film we have a second goal set at $6000. 

We are a close-knit group of students who want to make this project all that it can be. Therefore we ask you – friends, family and the Kickstarter universe to help us gather the necessary funds. All contributions will assist with pre-production and production expenses such as locations, equipment, permits, and production design.

Our writer/director has his roots, family and network of friends in Sweden, therefore will we have some sections translated into Swedish as well.

Vi är en grupp filmstudenter som är glada över att kunna presentera detta projekt här på Kickstarter! Det är fantastiskt att ha tillgång till en sådan stor och omfattande sida som stödjer kreativa och artistiska idéer. 

För att kunna genomföra detta projektet så måste vi få ihop minst $3500 (Ca 23 500 kr) under de 33 dagarna vi har vår Kickstarter kampanj. Vi siktar dock ännu högre för att ha möjligheten att följa visionen I manuset till fullo, därför siktar vi på att nå målet $6000 (Ca 40 000 kr). 

Vi ber därför er – vänner, familj och Kickstarter-universumet att hjälpa oss nå våra mål så att vi kan förverkliga denna filmen. Alla bidrag hjälper oss att finansiera saker som utrustning, film-tillstånd, produktions design och inspelningplatser. Pengarna kommer att gå oavkortat till produktionen.

Director's Comments:

Dear family, friends and Kickstarter,

Thank you for taking your time to check out our page. I’m so very excited to do this film! With a great team, the support and backing of Dodge College, and after three months of developing the script, we are ready to start preparing for production.

Some of you might wonder how we are going to produce a film that takes place in the 1960s cold war-era. I find the time period fascinating! The story evolved in my mind for months after listening to a song called ‘Yulia’ by Wolf Parade. I could not let it go. It was so beautiful in a melancholy way, I simlpy had to tell this story. I started studying the space race, and I read fascinating articles about the so-called ‘Lost Cosmonauts’. It may very well just be a myth, but it is an interesting one: that serves as the basis for the story. 

Now, fortunately for me, my film school Dodge College of Chapman University is very close to the heart of filmmaking in the US – Los Angeles. Which means that I can actually get a hold of actors, props, costumes and locations I need in order to make this film. This is probably the only place in the world, except for Russia of course, where this film can be made.

It will be a challenge, but I truly believe in this project!

Tack för att ni tar er tid att kolla in våran Kickstarter-kampanj. Jag är exalterad över möjligheten att få göra denna filmen som mitt examensprojekt här på Chapman University. Vi har ett fantastiskt team, stöd från vår skola, och efter 3 månaders utveckling av manuset är vi redo att gå in I produktion.

Into The Silent Sea utspelar sig under 1960-talets Kalla Kriget-era. Storyn utvecklades i mitt huvud efter att jag lyssnade på Wolf Parade’s vackra melankoliska låt ’Yulia’. En låt som handlar om en övergiven döende Kosmonaut. Jag började studera rymdkapplöpningen och läste en rad fascinerande artiklar angående myten om “De förlorade kosmonauterna”. En seglivad myt som hävdar att Sovjet täckte upp en rad misslyckade rymduppskjutningar och att det till denna dag cirkulerar frusna livlösa kosmonauter I omloppsbana runt jorden. 

Lyckligtvis för mig så ligger min filmskola nära hjärtat av filmproduktion I USA – Los Angeles. Vilket betyder att jag kan få tag på skådespelare, kostymer och inspelningsplatser för att genomföra detta projektet. Det är antagligen det enda stället I världen där denna filmen kan göras förutom I Ryssland såklart.
Det kommer bli en utmaning men jag tror verkligen på detta projeketet!

Where Your Money Goes:

Chapman University will provide most of the equipment we need. Which is a big relief on our budget. But making films is expensive and there are other costs to consider since this is a period piece, taking place in Soviet Russia (and in space). 

- Location Permits & fees (which tends to be expensive in California, but we have scouted some pretty cool locations that we are going to try and negotiate)
- Production Design (we will have to design and build the interior of a Soviet Vostok Capsule, as well as the interior of a Soviet Mission Control).
- Meals for cast and crew (we must feed all the hardworking cast and crewmembers)
- Post-production (Music rights, harddrives, stock footage etc)

Chapman University kommer att tillföra större delen av vår utrustning vilket är en stor lättnad för vår budget. Men att göra filmer kostar mycket pengar och här är några exempel på var pengarna kommer att gå till:
- Produktionsdesign (vi kommer att behöva bygga insidan av en sovjetisk kapsel samt inreda flera olika rum med 60-tals inredning)
- Filmtillstånd och hyra av inspelningsplatser
- Musikrättigheter, hårddiskar med mera till vår efterarbetning.
- Mat till vårt inspelningsteam (alla är studenter och jobbar gratis så det minsta vi kan göra är att erbjuda ett mål mat om dagen)
