About this project

J. W. Rinzler’s (jwrinzler.com) script gives a new interpretation to Poe’s classic tale, The Black Cat. Greg Knight’s phenomenal illustrations (gregknightart.com) create a fantastic gothic feel. This is a low-budget, high-quality, all-Petaluma-based enterprise. We aim to show how a well-crafted short can be created with a good story and one very dedicated seven-person team.

Editing will be done by Dave Sidley of Lightstream Animation Studios (www.lightstreamanimation.com); soundtrack and sound design by Chris Vibberts (www.chrisvibberts.com). Their expertise will be a huge boon to the short.

This is your chance to finance the arts in a way only recently made possible—to become part of an actual production in progress. Money raised will cover editing, artwork, the voice actors, and all sound-related jobs.

Our funding goal is a numerical clue linked to Poe--not too difficult to solve, but see if you can...

Please click on the trailer to see Knight's early concept art (the sizzler Rinzler made quickly using iMovie). The funding will take our short to a higher level and it will, hopefully, be accepted into festivals, etc.

  • I (Rinzler) used to teach American lit., and I always thought there was a mystery to be solved at the center of Poe's great Black Cat story. I'd always thought the solution to the riddle would be really cool as animated short. Now I have the great artistic partners to realize that dream.
