About this project
Welcome to A Song About Peace Kickstarter Campaign!
Hello! I'm Mia Michelle McClain (www.miamichellemcclain.com), a professional performing artist and independent singer-songwriter based in the New York City Metro Area. I am a graduate of Syracuse University (Go Orange!) and an alum of Groovestand A Cappella (www.groovestand.net), Cuse's premier co-ed a cappella group. During my three-year tenure as a member and co-music director of Groovestand, the group performed over 15 of my arrangements, including the original song, A Song About Peace, which debuted in April of 2009 at an annual LGBT celebratory function. A Song About Peace went on to make it's official concert debut at the spring A Cappella Afterhours Concert in the beautiful Setnor Auditorium, featuring 16 Groovers.
A Song About Peace went on to be a staple in the a cappella community at Syracuse University (www.syr.edu). It was requested at several events--once, by the Office of the Chancellor--, performed by solo artists, and performed as a unity piece in fall of 2009 by five a cappella groups on campus. Now, it's time to make this platform of peace global!
My goal with this Kickstarter campaign, is to raise enough funds to support the official professional recording of A Song About Peace, featuring original members and semi-pro and professional a cappella singers based in the NYC Metro area. In addition to the mastered a cappella recording, there will be an accompanied version of A Song About Peace featuring live instrumentation and the voices of community youth. On the Extended Play, there will also be a bonus, intimate a cappella track--an original composition in honor of the prominant civil rights movements of the past and the present--as well as 1-2 other inspirational a cappella songs that are currently in the works.
With this extended play album, I hope to not only promote A Song About Peace, but to advocate for peace as a platform for change! We each have the potential to positively affect the world. I choose to change the world one music note at a time!
Join me in spreading the message of peace and love by way of music.
A Song About Peace:
If I could sing a song, a song about peace and love, If I could open every door to see the light that shines above, If I could shelter you from all the harm and hurt, then I could bring you every thing you need and sing you lullabies to sleep--songs of hope and a song about peace.
If I could sing a song, a song that can change the world, then I could breathe new life through words and touch the hearts of boys and girls through my song of peace.
I can't stand to cry no more, the pain of war is eating me alive. Lately I've been scared to dream. I never sleep.[I] dont smile I only cry. And it's killing me, the world is falling.[It's] killing me, I hear a song calling. A SONG ABOUT PEACE!

Thanks for the question. The Kickstarter project is multifaceted. It currently contains 3 recorded songs and a 4th live performance of "A Song About Peace." The $3000 would ideally cover:
1. The recording of the a cappella version of "A Song About Peace."2. The recording of "Hate to Hope"
3. The hiring of musicians and the recording of "A Song About Peace (w/ instruments)
4. The venue and production for the live performance of "A Song About Peace," which will also be video-taped.
5. The EP would also include the original demo version which is already recorded, as well as 1-2 other inspirational songs that are currently in the works.

My motto: Be inspired by ART so that you may inspire others.
My fingers first graced the piano at the age of three. I went on to study classical piano at the Sallier School of Music for fourteen years. Additionally, I've studied classical voice, violin, jazz improvisation, composition, and arrangement. Today, as a singer-songwriter, I continue to share my love of music with listeners across the globe.
I'm Mia Michelle McClain, a native of New Orleans and a graduate of Syracuse University's Department of Drama with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre, Magna Cum Laude. During my time at 'CUSE, I was a member and music director of Groovestand A Cappella, the premier co-ed group on the 'Cuse campus. With Groovestand, I arranged over 15 songs and directed the most amazing singers as we took the 2011 ICCA Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinals! Champions baby!--Best night of my Aca-life!
It goes without saying that I have a passion for music, but it runs much deeper than that. My passion for inspirational music has been the greatest gift God has given me. To be able to change lives with music is far greater than any pay check or award (though I'm not opposed to that...hehe). I just love making music that speaks positivity into the universe. That's all.
