About this project

What do we want to do?

Very simply…we need funding to create a pilot show to pitch cable networks for a fully funded television series, Three@Sea.

Atherton Pictures believes there is a multi-generational television viewing audience that wants to see a smart, dynamic, non-dysfunctional and adventurous family out to discover the people, history, food, and activities of cultures around the world.  Great television doesn’t have to be mean-spirited and snarky…it just has to tell great stories.   Three@Sea is full of great stories.

What is Three@Sea about?

Inspired by a desire to show their daughter, Ayla, the world from a unique perspective, David and Kathryn Besemer followed through on a long-held dream to circumnavigate the world on a boat.  Their journey is one of discovery and kinship based on the simple hope that there is more that bonds us than divides us.

So, they sold their house, cars, most of their belongings and traded in their traditional land-based (and land-locked) life in Boulder, Colorado.  They have been living and cruising aboard their trusty ship, Three@Sea, for two years, voyaging more than 11,000 nautical miles, from The Bahamas to the Canadian Maritimes.  Now armed with the skills and desire to cross oceans, the Besemers want to begin a multi-year voyage around the world and share that journey on a 60-minute weekly television show.  Its family friendly docu-style format is part travel, part reality and all heart.

Why not just use the video on this page to pitch the networks?

The Besemers were great students and learned all they could about shooting video – so all the footage you see was shot by them.  The real interaction, adventure and true personalities of each family member will come out when a crew is following them and they don’t have to worry about shooting themselves.  We’ve had some interest from some cable networks and the ones we’ve talked to are looking for “characters.”   We’d like to show them that “characters” can be adventurous, fun, smart, engaging and optimistic.  We’re going to show what an intact family looks like, let Ayla be a positive role model for children and teens, and let the crew of Three@Sea shine.

What will we do with the money?

We will travel a small camera crew (Producer/Sound and DP/Cameraman) for a week to the current location of Three@Sea (they’re in Puerto Rico at the time of this submission) and shoot a pilot.  We’re not making money on this deal – just covering production and post-production expenses.  Once complete, we’ll begin the pitch process with the networks.

With a great pilot, the right network and connections, and little bit of luck sprinkled on top, Three@Sea will become a series that the entire family can watch together.  At the very least, perhaps it will run as a one-hour special.

If you support smart, quality family friendly television, please join the Three@Sea voyage and contribute today.  Thank you!
