Mock Trailer: When You Know, You Know
GOAL: To raise funds to shoot a mock trailer for a fake romantic comedy. Funds will go to production and post-production costs, such as, but not limited to, set dressing, costuming, and festival submission fees.
The trailer pokes fun at one of the most absurd aspects of modern bridal culture. Inspired by a true story, "When You Know, You Know" will have you laugh-crying before you can say, "I do."
Writer/Producer Poonam Basu was inspired by her own wedding experiences. "It's easy to laugh at Bridezillas," she says. "The really scary part is how easy it is to get sucked into the madness, even when you think you don't really care. Like me. Not that I was a Bridezilla...Was I? No seriously."
REASON: John F. Kennedy said, "If art is to nourish the roots of our culture, society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes him."
This quote gets truer by the minute! With the onset of Youtube, increasingly powerful cameras and video cameras on cell phones, and even Kickstarter, more and more artists are free to share their visions every day.
This project is an experiment as much as it is a passion project. As a screenwriter, Poonam has various feature films in the works. One day, she would like to see them produced. This short project is an experiment in artist collaboration to gain invaluable experience for future projects and films. Making art is as much about the courage to just get out there and do it, as it is about talent, timing, and luck.
In June, after wrapping her first lead actress role in a feature film in LA, Poonam was antsy and more than ready to get back on set. She wears many caps, but in her heart of hearts, she is an actor. In addition to continuing to audition her -ahem- glutes off, Poonam decided to make it happen for herself. She got in touch with her colleagues, Kristen Bell (co-producer) and Charlton Ruddock (director) even before she landed in NY.
Poonam and Kristen met many years ago as NYU grads working at Scholastic Publishing House. They bonded quickly over their love for boy bands, English grammar, and the Disney Channel. With her passion for silly sitcoms and her business background from NYU's prestigious Stern School of Business, Kristen has all the makings of a successful producer. Poonam has been encouraging Kristen for years to get some real-world experience on set. Now finally the time has come for Kristen's amazing producing debut! But can they raise the necessary funds to make her debut a success?
Poonam and Charlton met through the Simon Studio in NY last year. Since then, they have tried to collaborate on various projects, all of which have fallen through... Until now. Finally, the stars have aligned!
Can you help Poonam, Kristen, and Charlton follow their vision to completion? Contribute today!
