About this project

I am tenor that has sung with Utah Symphony | Utah Opera, Salt Lake Symphony & Paradigm Chamber Orchestra (in addition to numerous concert performances in the Salt Lake metro area). Opera is a strong love of mine, but another passion is in song & recitals. Recently, I was able to sing in London, at St. Martin-in-the-Fields, on one of their recital series - in an experience that was magnificent.

After hearing some of Clint's songs, I decided that I wanted to commission a new setting of Walt Whitman's A Jubilant Song, and have the world premiere of this piece on my upcoming international recital tour that will occur in 2013.

I first heard Clint's music last year, when bass-baritone Tim Hill was commissioning a set of Walt Whitman songs (that are quite lovely). What attracts me to Clint's music is the way that he uses harmonies in new and unusual ways, but still keeping the vocal line stunningly beautiful. To find out more about Clint, google "Clint Borzoni" or go to http://clintjborzoni.com. Do both...Clint does not "toot his own horn" as much as he should on his personal website (another reason to like this guy and his writing!)

At the end of the process, I would like to create a studio recording of this song (along with a full recording of the recital that will be taken on tour). Clint's commission, the fee for the studio recording & the accompanist's fee is what make up the $550 total. Any and all donations will be gladly accepted! Please help Clint & I create new repertoire for the amazing art that is song!

Connected as Mitch Sturges (2188 friends)

Hailed with “honest” and “transparently clean” singing by the Deseret News, tenor Mitchell Sturges, a Salt Lake City native, lives in Tucson, Arizona, where he is under the tutelage of Dr. Kristin Dauphinais at the University of Arizona. Past performances include leading roles in Gianni Schicchi, Il barbiere di Siviglia and Amahl and the Night Visitors, collaborating with the University of Utah Opera Theatre, Paradigm Chamber Orchestra & Salt Lake Symphony. In the summer of 2007, he sang the role of Gherardo in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi & the Sergeant in Donizetti’s Rita in Pesaro, Italy at international music festival La Musica Lirica. He has been a featured soloist throughout Salt Lake performing J.S. Bach’s St. Matthew Passion, P.D.Q. Bach’s Oedipus Tex, Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb, Dvořák’s Requiem & Händel’s Messiah. In spring 2010, he was a featured soloist with Utopia Early Music, performing music from 17th century England.

An active recitalist, Mitchell Sturges is known for his commitment to exploring and performing a vast array of song repertoire, with a special passion for American song. Mr. Sturges has been presented in recital at venues such as St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, England, the Assembly Hall on Temple Square in Salt Lake, First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake, Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church & the Salt Lake City Library, giving “inspired performances” and leaving audiences “entertained and edified”.

The 2011-2012 season finds Mr. Sturges portraying Nika Magadoff in Menotti's The Consul in November with the University of Arizona Opera Theatre, and in March 2012, he will be making two recital débuts, in Tucson on St. Philip's-in-the-Hills' Lenten recital series, and in Los Angeles at the Los Angeles City College.

In addition to being a singer, he is the Founder & Artistic Director of the Expositions :: SLC Concert Series, a series of concerts that features young professionals of all genres of music. As well as highlighting these emerging artists, the other main tenet of this series is to promote 20th & 21st century works and composers.
