We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on June 4, 2012.

And the results are in!

Update #29 · May 22, 2013 · comment

Hey all and thanks to everyone who participated in the survey.  In all we had over 150 respondents and the verdict was the full-bleed version (the one without the white borders) by a landslide...  here's a couple of graphs from the results:

With respondents from all over the world... with big clusters around New York and the whole East Coast, Silicon Valley, Europe, Japan and a good hunk from Southern Australia.  Very cool!

Thanks again to everyone who participated! :-)

Mooser's Train has ARRIVED!

Update #28 · May 16, 2013 · 2 comments

Hey All,

Just another quick update to let you  know that the diagrams for Mooser's Train are finally live!

http://creatingorigami.com/diagrams/train.html

What a project that turned out to be... it's almost a book in its own right.  This is by far the most complex and extensive set of diagrams I've ever produced -- clocking in at nearly 80 hours of work it shatters the previous holder of the record the Clownfish and Sea Anemone.

I researched on the web and I tried to clarify all the sore spots people have hit, include every variation that people have come up with over the years and even included a few simple variations myself as well as full-color diagrams and photo step folds.  I'm pretty excited about it so I hope you enjoy!

The second piece of exciting news is that as a result of a lot of hard work by OrigamiUSA and a little help from me, this year's edition of their annual "Origami Collection" will be published on CreateSpace in full softbound format, just like "Creating Origami."

I've been in charge of the technical side of things and it's all finalized... except for the cover.  We can't decide between the two versions and have decided to leave it up to you to decide.  I would be GRATEFUL if you would take 15 seconds and cast a vote...  we really could use your input.

The Origami Collection is an amazing annual containing models by members and other enthusiasts from around the world some famous and some up-and-coming.  As part OUSA's archive committee I've had the opportunity to look back on the 30 years worth of material and it's brilliant... pretty much every designer who ended up well-known in the community used it as a testing ground for their models.  The book won't be released until the convention in the end of June but they gave me the go-ahead to give you all a link to the TOC so you can see it in advance.  Here you go...

That's pretty much all the news that fit to print for now... as always many things in the works but I'll keep mum for now.  :-)

Kindle and iBook versions Ho!

Update #27 · Feb 27, 2013 · 2 comments

Hey all!  It's been a LONG time since my last update.  After the massive work of getting the final version of Creating Origami out in early September I kinda crashed from exhaustion and took a long deserved break from taking on anything new that involved deadlines - ick!

But since getting through the holidaze (stet) I've been back on task and working to complete the last few stretch goals and other details I'd promised during the campaign.  I know you are all thrilled with the amount of stuff you've gotten already (as I've heard from SO many of you -- thanks!) but it's important to me to keep agreements no matter what and as such should be coming to completion on the remaining portions in the next couple of weeks.

So with this short e-mail I'm announcing the completion and availability of both the Kindle and iBook versions of Creating Origami.  They both look awesome (particularly the iBook version which was converted by fellow origamian Brian Webb and looks gorgeous!) and I'm very excited to be releasing them.

There is a free preview of the iBook version on iTunes and of course a "Look Inside" on Amazon for the Kindle version.

IBook: https://itunes.apple.com/book/creating-origami/id604761350?ls=1
Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/Creating-Origami-Exploration-Designing-ebook/dp/B00BB2F6LO

I know I promised a few of you ebook versions of Creating Origami when they became available so if you are one of the few in that category please do ping me ASAP and I'll arrange that.  I've got a few discount codes that can be used but they have a time limit associated with them.

So that is that piece... all that remains are the diagrams for Mooser's Train and Stamm's Dragon which I'm hoping will be available in the next couple of weeks.

As always -- with LOVE,
JC

Update #26 · Sep 23, 2012 · 2 comments

Hey All,

Just another quick update with a few more freebies.  Several of or contributors have volunteered their time to translate Andrea's Rose into French, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese and Hebrew!  I've also got someone working on Klingon...

You can upload the PDF's at http://creatingorigami.com/diagrams/andrea.html.  Any other volunteers willing to translate and add to the collection?  I know there are at least a few other languages represented out there. :-)

WE'RE LIVE! :-)

Update #25 · Sep 9, 2012 · 6 comments

As of yesterday we are officially live and up for business on amazon!

http://www.amazon.com/Creating-Origami-Exploration-Designing-Sculpture/dp/1478229276/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1347216697&sr=8-6&keywords=creating+origami

The next step for is to start getting the news out!

1) Please, everyone go to the amazon page and "like" the book, and cross post the url to friends on your social networks who might like the book as well,  If everyone who was part of the campaign get's at least one other person to "like" the book we should be able to reach 1000 easily.

2) If you really like the book and are willing to write a quick review on amazon for the book as well as throwing in some high-star ratings - that would be rockin'.  If just 20% of the contributors wrote something that would be 100 reviews... so please everyone, if you've enjoyed the book do take a little time and lend your words to the cause!

In other news, I'm starting to dig into converting to kindle, which is something I promised I'd do for you.  More on that later... :-)

As always, with Great Gratitude...
