Kaufman (19) must decide what he wants to do with his life while grappling with the tugs and pulls of his family and friends.

Synopsis:

Reprobation follows the story of a young man who's faced with a life-defining choice. Will he follow the strong traditions of his family? Or will he stay true to his innermost desire and passion? This young man, Kaufman, spent his entire life influenced bythe strong religious beliefs of his family. Now as he enters the next stage in his life, he must confront the torment in his heart. Should he hang out with his friends, go the religious route and make his parents happy, or can he find and follow through with his wants? The pressure builds as Kaufman runs out of time. He must make a decision, a decision that will influence the rest of his life.

Why do we need $1,200?

We've already spent $600 and have numerous future expenses as we approach the post production phase as well as residual bills from production.

Here are four main categories that took up a large portion of our budget:

Equipment: $ 230

To make a good movie you need the right equipment. Luckily, I was able to rent thousands of dollars worth of equipment from my school for free. But I had to rent a steady cam/shoulder mount for the camera ($95) with a pull focus in order to shoot with the Canon 5D and get great images that will make this story come to life. In addition, we had to buy a brand new hard drive ($110) to store all of the large HD files. We also had assorted electrical components necessary for production.

Props: $55

We were thrifty in the production design department and managed to limit the budget to $55 (A LOT less than we anticipated). The goal with production design and costumes is to make this story world a reality. We decorated the house, outfitted the characters, and spruced up multiple locations on this shoe-string budget. Here is an example of the art work (a key element of the film - a piece that can be all yours with a $200 donation).

Food: $190

This shoot could not have come to fruition without the incredible effort put forth by the cast and crew. In order to get everyone's best performance we had to have plenty of food and water on set. Twelve hour shoots are extremely arduous, but we needed everyone to be at their best. We had eight different actors between the five-day shoot. In addition, we always had roughly ten people on set. The crew worked with camera, lighting, sound, extras, and much much more. They were fantastic!

Gas: $70

We did lots of driving! Whether it was location-scouting, casting and rehearsing with the actors, finalizing locations with agreements, or lugging equipment around, it always seemed like we were in a car and on the move.

Miscellaneous Expenses: $55

These expenses range anywhere from mailing DVDs to the cast and crew to purchasing batteries for the sound equipment.

"The total is up to $600, then why do you want $1,200?"

For many reasons!

Actor's Compensation:

The actor's on this set were extremely dedicated. They drove all over the city, starting at auditions back in March and all the way up to ADR (Audio Dialogue Replacement) this September. They gave up time from their jobs, family, and other obligations in order to commit fully to this project. And they have done all of this FOR FREE up to this point. Some of your donations will be retroactive stipends for these actors.

Here is a teaser trailer so you can see all of the wonderful actors who brought these characters to life.

Additional expenses:

Many costs will surface throughout the post production phase. An editor and I will put in long hours throughout the fall semester to ensure that this film reaches its potential by improving the audio and video components in post production.

We will rent additional equipment necessary for sound mixing, ADR, color correction, and other post production effects.

We will need to pay a musician to score the film and bolster the soundtrack.

Amazon and Kickstarter take 8-10% commission from the total money raised.

Ultimately, we want this story to be seen and heard! We will submit it to multiple film festivals across the country and hope for the best. Everyone worked extremely hard on this project and showcasing it in front of a larger audience would be a great reward for them. Everyone who contributed to the film will be able to say they helped create something great.

I, Ryan Allsop, made this film in order to impact others. To see it play at a film festival would be incredibly gratifying. With your help (small or big) my dream can become a reality.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIME!!!

-Ryan T.G. Allsop (Director)
