About this project

Backstory

After 150 years of using mason jars, we still only have a cumbersome 2-piece canning lid and a leaky plastic storage cap.  I created reCAP from the desire to drink beverages and pour homemade salad dressing from my mason jars.

About the pour cap

It's a plastic screw cap that fits standard mason jars.  The design was inspired by the classic American zinc cap, but enhanced with the practicality of BPA-free recyclable plastic. With reCap, you can now easily reuse your mason jars for drinking or mixing dressing.

What are some ways to use these?

Serve, Pour & Store:

·      Homemade sauces, dressings, etc

·      Tea, water, beverages

·      Pantry items such as sugar, flour, raisins, etc. Buy bulk foods and store in the healthier glass mason jars.

·      Paint and other hobby supplies

·      Home spa treatments

·      Save your beverage from beer pong mishaps

What is the money for?

Designing and building the molds.  It took months to capture the aesthetic of the vintage zinc caps. The final design is nearly complete and the next step is to “print” the final, final, final prototype.  After that the mold design then the mold itself.  Building the mold will take about 6 weeks from time of funding. After that, we'll produce the caps and ship them to you! All design, molding and production is done in Erie, PA.

What’s next?

I designed other caps each with a different functional use (such as a spoon/shaker cap) but need to get the first one off the ground.

  • I am planning a January ship date. If all goes well it could be in December, but since projects rarely go without a hitch, I want to be more realistic.
