The Kelly Powers Project is a new recording project taking place on February 20th, 2012 in Brooklyn NY. I am asking for your involvement to help cover expenses for the recording studio, mixing, production, distribution and promotion of the CD. Your contributions will also support the exceptional artists involved in this project. The release date is April 2012!!!
Kelly Powers Project: Pianist Kelly Powers founded the KPP in 2010. They have been playing original music in venues around New York City. They are anxious to hit the studio and record their debut album.

Kelly has been living and playing music in New York City for the past several years. Her first recording, Kelly Powers Trio, was released in 2006. She has performed alongside many great jazz artists including Jimmy Heath, Eddie Henderson, Nat Reeves, Steve Davis, Jim Rotundi, Eric Alexander, Jeremy Pelt, Winard Harper, Dezron Douglas and Luques Curtis. She has also performed and toured with many big bands including the Artie Shaw Orchestra, Cab Calloway Orchestra, Jack Jeffers NYC Classics, George Gee Swing Orchestra and Travis Sullivan, Bjorkestra. She has played many venues around the world, some of these include, Jazz Cafe(London), Body and Soul (Tokyo), Cafe Rosenberg (Reykjavik), Jazz Club (Barcelona), Smoke, Cleopatra's Needle, Kitano, Zinc Bar, Miles Cafe, Swing 46, Minton's Playhouse, the Carlyle, Rainbow Room, Scullers and Regattabar.

Vito Chiavuzzo's versatility has led to performances and recordings with a wide variety of musicians across many genres. In addition to performing in jazz clubs (Smoke, Smalls, Iridium, Dizzy's, etc) and on Broadway, Vito has played in other exciting venues throughout NY including the Apollo Theater, BB King's, Radio City Music Hall, and Madison Square Garden. Other performances and festivals have brought him from coast to coast in the U.S. as well as to Germany, Austria, Ireland, Portugal, and Venezuela. Vito has recorded on numerous albums for artists including the Mambo Legends Orchestra (formerly the Tito Puente Orchestra), the Smoke Big Band lead by Bill Mobley, hip hop/ soul band C Phineas, singer-singwriter Natalie Riccio, and a Grammy-nominated album with the Henry Mancini Institute Big Band. Vito can also be seen performing with soul legend Aretha Franklin on the HBO special celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Trumpeter Thomas Heflin (http://www.thomasheflin.com/)
Jazz trumpeter Thomas Heflin has been hailed as "a fluent trumpeter with a bright tone and a forward-looking style" by jazz writer Scott Yanow. Known as a creative and versatile player, Heflin plays with a unique style that combines the contemporary with the rich traditions of jazz. In 2005, he placed second in the Carmine Caruso International Jazz Trumpet Solo Competition in Seattle, WA and has since been featured or mentioned in Italy's Jazz Magazine, The Pittsburgh Tribune Review and The International Trumpet Guild Journal among others. Heflin is a recording artist for Blue Canoe Records, the first all-digital jazz label. His debut album "Symmetry," which featured renowned pianist James Williams, was released in 2007 to rave reviews. In 2009, he produced and performed on "Introducing the New 5" by the cooperative group, The New 5, and in 2011, Heflin released his third album, a collaborative CD with Ron Westray, former lead trombonist with Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra. Heflin is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he studied with jazz education luminary, Jerry Coker. He received his masters degree from the internationally renowned jazz department at William Paterson University and his doctorate in Music Performance (Jazz Emphasis) from the University of Texas, Austin. Heflin currently lives and performs in New York City where he works as the Program Manager of the Precollege Division at the Manhattan School of Music.

As an in demand bassist with a big sound, Josh Paris, steadily performs in and around New York City. He has performed at venues such as Dizzy’s Club, The 55 Bar, Fat Cat, Miles Café, The Tea Lounge and others. In addition to leading The Josh Paris Group, he also currently works with The Awakening Orchestra, The Robbyn Tongue Group and The Andrew Gutauskus Group. Josh has been featured as a co-leader and composer on Scantily Clad's "Moving Out" and as a member of C Phineas, which has released two albums "C Phineas" and "The Breakdown."
Drummer Austin Walker (http://www.myspace.com/austinwalkerjazz)
New York based drummer who has recorded with artists such as Chris Potter and Harvie S. His drumming brings an honest explosiveness and a sense of creative support without lacking in interaction and a depth of groove.

Kelly Powers pianist, composer and educator is a young, inspired artist making her way on the New York City jazz scene. Kelly graduated Magna Cum Laude from Jackie McLean Institute for Jazz Studies and thereupon pursued her Master degree at the Manhattan School of Music. During this time she was a student of pianists Harold Mabern, Larry Willis, Garry Dial, Andy Laverne and jazz legend Jackie McLean. Kelly also had the opportunity to study with George Cables at the Jazz in July summer program at University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Kelly has performed alongside many great jazz artists including Jimmy Heath, Eddie Henderson, Nat Reeves, Steve Davis, Jim Rotundi, Eric Alexander, Jeremy Pelt, Winard Harper, Dezron Douglas and Luquez Curtis. She has also performed and toured with many big bands including the Artie Shaw Orchestra, Cab Calloway Orchestra, Jack Jeffers NYC Classics, George Gee Swing Orchestra and Travis Sullivan Bjorkestra. Ms. Powers graduated from the Manhattan School of Music jazz program in 2006, where she studied with Garry Dial, Cecil Bridgewater and Dave Leibman. Upon graduation, her debut CD (available on iTunes and CDBaby) was released including sidemen Matt Aronoff, Kendrick Scott and special guest Samir Zarif. This CD features two original compositions and arrangements of classic jazz standards.
Ms. Powers has taught jazz improvisation and piano at summer camps at the Artist Collective (Hartford, CT) and Montclair Music Camp (Montclair, NJ). She currently has a sizeable roster of private students and has appeared in educational concerts for children at the Jazz at Lincoln Center Webop Program. She is on faculty at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the Bergen Academy of Music and Arts (Oradell, NJ).
