About this project

Jack Detroit offers readers six issues per year, focused on men’s interests, needs, desires, questions and issues, all centered on the Metro Detroit area. Features will be geared toward the community in which readers live, work, play and thrive – the D. Side by side with an innovative, male-dominated editorial plan, Jack Detroit offers advertisers an engaging platform to promote their companies.

This company was founded on the principle that a positive media representation of relevant community happenings and ideas leads to stronger community ties. We are committed to strengthening these local bonds, while simultaneously providing a source of entertainment and information to male readers.

Many of our freelance writers, photographers, models, stylists and graphic designers are based in our community, contributing to our city's own creative vitality and revitalization - from within.

The launch issue of Jack Detroit will have a total run of 15,000 print copies. The vast majority of copies will be provided to advertisers (whose storefronts will be the points of distribution), on a sliding scale connected to their advertisement’s size. Complimentary copies of each issue will be provided to readers who frequent these targeted locations. Additionally, subscriptions are available, both in traditional print and electronic formats.

The first issue launches May 1 - your generous support will help fund the printing costs of this premiere issue, while spreading the word about a product that is shaping up to change the way the men in our town access entertaining information for leisure.

Jack Detroit was founded by Leah Moss, a recent college graduate with a B.A. in English and B.A. in Linguistics. Her senior honors thesis tackled the viability of print publication in an age of new media, and her work experience spans across journalistic platforms. She is a 5-foot-0 Taurus with a sweet tooth, who considers herself a word nerd, as well as a handbag and hockey enthusiast.
