Wooden bowls lovingly hand-carved from recycled or found materials bring people back to nature and functionality back to art.
Hi! Welcome to Turn the other Teak. My project is to create high-end wooden bowls, vases, and utensils using rare and interesting types of wood. With eccentric staining and turning techniques, intricately carved lace designs, semi precious stone inlays and metal inlays I will turn discarded or found materials into works of art.

Functionality is also an important aspect of my work. I look to create functional pieces that can be used in everyday life, wooden vessels and utensils that serve a purpose, and at the same time, remind you of how beautiful the world can be.
The funding that I'm looking for will go towards the purchase of:
1) a Wood lathe
2) Gouging and turning tools
3) a Keyhole saw
4) a Band saw
with room to spare for taxes and any other materials, equipment, and tools that I may need.
At the moment I am working with a foot-powered spring pole wood lathe that I built myself, but it's just not cutting it (pardon the pun).
I'm planning on expanding my business to an actual store by the end of this year, but I need better equipment to accomplish this. That's where you come in. With your help, I hope I can make this dream come true. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to introduce you to Turn the Other Teak and my ideas,
Matthew May
Chef, writer, poet, musician, and artist whose focus is on nature and the preservation of natural resources on our planet. My wife, Valerie, our daughter, Dune, and I are looking for ways to live a completely sustainable lifestyle in today's busy world. We see the forest around us as extensions of ourselves and of our potential in this life. The majority of the materials used for this project will be recycled materials that others have discarded in our community.
