LATINO
LATINO es una fantasia panhistórica que explora lo que significa ser Latino. Es una obra que combina la música, el humor y la política en un montaje entretenido para todo espectador. LATINO es una obra que aborda temas como la inmigración, la representación y la discriminación desde una perspectiva Chilena, cuestionando los estereotipos de lo latino, desde la fundación hollywoodense del mito del "latin lover" hasta las fantasías tropicales de las repúblicas bananeras. En Chile, un país que no posee ni siquiera un clima tropical y, mucho menos, plantaciones de banana este imaginario resulta, particularmente, irónico.

La obra fue escrita el 2011 y presentada a Columbia University de Nueva York como la tesis magistral de la dramaturga, Camila Le-Bert. En Mayo se estrenó en el teatro 3 Legged Dog en el centro de Manhattan con solamente dos funciones. Qué penita!
¿PARA QUÉ?
Ahora, en Chile, este proyecto financiará, en parte, un montaje profesional con dos temporadas (un total de 28 funciones!). Los fondos recaudados harán posible la compra de materiales para la construcción de la escenografía y los vestuarios del montaje, que son muy importantes ya que la obra tiene 22 personajes, ¡incluyendo a Carmen Miranda y el Plátano!
DOS TEMPORADAS!
LATINO se estrenará ahora en Chile el 27 de Septiembre en Matucana 100, un prestigioso centro cultural en Santiago y tendrá funciones de Jueves a Domingo hasta el 21 de Octubre. Una segunda temporada comenzará el 16 de Noviembre en el teatro Lastarria 90 y finalizará el 9 de Diciembre. Esperamos que esto sea solo el comienzo de un largo viaje que comienza en Chile y que viajará por el mundo hasta llegar a ti!

LATINO
LATINO is a pan-historic fantasia that explores what it means to be Latino. A show that combines music, humor and politics in an entertaining production for everyone to enjoy! LATINO is a play that looks at topics like immigration, representation and discrimination from a Chilean point of view, questioning Latino stereotypes, from the Hollywood creation of the “Latin lover myth” to the tropical fantasies of the banana republic. For Chile, a country of many climates, none of which include tropical and, even less, the presence of banana plantations, this imaginary is, particularly, ironic.
from NEW YORK
Latino was written in 2011 as a graduating thesis for Camila Le-Bert’s MFA at Columbia University and in New York City. Under it’s original title “De Sous” the play was premiered at the 3 Legged Dog Theatre (3LD) in downtown Manhattan with only two performances.
With the playwright back in her home country, this project intends to fund a professional production, of two runs, a total of 28 performances, that will allow for the play to reach a greater audience and that will, hopefully, tour the world!
WHAT FOR?
With the funds raised for this project we will be able to buy the materials for the set construction and the costumes for the production, which are very important (essential) since there are 22 characters in the play, including Carmen Miranda and the Banana!
TWO RUNS!
LATINO will now premiere in Chile on September 27th in MATUCANA 100, a prestigious cultural center in Santiago with performances from Thursday to Sunday until October 21st. A second run of the play, will open on November 16th at The LASTARRIA 90 theatre, and will close on December 9th. We hope this is only the beginning of a long journey that will begin in Chile and will travel across the world to you.
