We are a creative greeting card project that is working to improve employment options for adults with developmental disabilities. Bring art to cards!
My sister Olivia has inspired this project. She is a talented creative young lady with down syndrome and the only employment options open to her are places with toxic chemicals and manual labor.
Fortunato's Smile is focused on giving meaningful employment to people like Olivia who are interested in the arts and have time to spend making cards. The images for Fortunato's Smile cards are unique designs that are made with an artful aesthetic. We want to bring a hand-made touch to postal greetings.
You'll see some examples of our first generation designs in the video to get a taste of the kinds of things we make. The project is focused on producing cards in bulk which can be sold to stationery stores or directly to individuals who are looking for a special mail art opportunity. To expand our current limited capacity, we want to buy a Vandercook letterpress with these project funds.
