Where did this start and what are you doing?

Last Fall, Adam interviewed and succeeded in getting a residency at the Baryshnikov Arts center based around dance and technology. He contacted me (Chris) about doing a joint project - a project that mixed both of our talents - Dance and Video. We then spent months researching and watching other people's mixed media performance pieces. We saw body tracking performances, dance pieces with mixed video projection, and live projected dancers dancing with their real live counterparts. We saw things that worked and things that didnt. We were insipired to accomplish something we had yet to see, a seamlessly mixed performance piece with dance and video where once part of the piece cannot survive without the other.

The performance couldn't be possible without our performers - Molly Merkler, Kate Harvi Atherton, and Veronica Carnero, who are much more collaborators for the project than anything else. We get our inspiration from them and the project grows from their own personal experiences. Without them, this project would be enitrely different, if not non-existant.

So whats the story?
Become Displaced is about feeling lost.
Become Displaced is about being put somewhere you don't belong.
Become Displaced is about struggling to find yourself.
Become Displaced is about mixing two powerful things that don't relate.
Become Displaced is about wanting to be different, but resisting it.
Become Displaced.

So What? What is this thing about?
Well we arent going to REALLY tell you. Its video, its dance, its strange, its enlightening, its boring, its low brow, its high brow, its everything and nothing you'd expect.
But you will Become Displaced.

Ok, So what if I give you money?
We can do lots of things. Your money will be used to help us pay for our rehearsal space, our technology needs, and pay our performers. Without funding we are limited in this integration between performance and new media. We need projectors, we need cameras, we need IR lights, we need robots with lasers (not really) but we DO need your support!
