Garrison has made documentaries about Appalachian children's photography, a small traveling circus, neighborhoods in Dayton, OH, and the impact of art on the people and economy of an inner-city community. His fiction film, THE WILGUS STORIES, and his latest documentary, THIRD WARD TX premiered at SXSW and were broadcast on PBS. He lives in Austin and teaches at U.T. where he created the doc class, East Austin Stories.
Thanks, Julie. Probably have a fine cut in September.
A.
a great job done with unusual content
Thanks, Christine. I'll keep you posted on the progress!
Just watched the "rough cut", and want to send my congratulations for fabulous work by all of those involved. It is a work of great heart. I wish you the best of luck for future success with this documentary. Thank you.
Hey, John- Thanks so much! Glad you feel so strongly about it.
Andy
Fantastic! I know you can't see it but hope you can feel my standing ovation.
Hi, Susan-
I've tried the link and password on two different computers and two different browsers and everything is working.
Maybe the issue is that this is a streaming video. First thing you should see is an image of one of the rearloaders with two people tossing trash in the back, working in a neighborhood. You have to click on the little triangle in the lower left to start the download. Then...nothing, black, for a moment as it starts to bring in information. But soon you should see the picture and hear sound. The first image is a late evening sky on a piece of tarmac and a guy in a high-vis yellow shirt walking out to pick up trash.
If that still doesn't work for you, try deleting your browser's cache (in the browser's preferences). It might be trying to play what it used to have instead of the new film. Get back to me if this still does not work, please!
Best wishes,
Andy
This is getting frustrating. Let me see whats going on.
A.
Andy,
There is nothing to view when I went to the link. Just a dark screen?
Good to hear your update. I wondered how things were progressing.
Can't wait to see a cut of the film.
Hired a terrific editor with Kickstarter support! Angela K. Pires is from Brazil, now living in Austin. I love the feature she edited, "The Prison and the Street." You can see clips at:

Also had a great casual fundraising party in the backyard of Amon and Carol Burton. Great fun,. Showed some nice new clips along with more familiar info.
Best regards,
Andy

WOW!!! So excited, Andrew and Allison! Major congratulations on meeting - and exceeding! - goal!!
Congratulations! You made your goal! How exciting! Can't wait to see the finished product.
that is sooooo great. i praise you for your diligence and hope that you succeed in getting your goal
Wow, it is moving! Good luck and excited to be a part of this project.
Am doing research for my own Kickstarter Project making a film where a 6 year ole cripple kid plays an offspring to a Scare Crow Girl who has come to life. Hence, for me, the trailer for Trash Dance felt quite inspiring. Saw how recruiting those garbage guys was initially a pretty tough sell. Your perserverance factor in this project must be solid. Will contribute & follow along.
Hey, Ryan - I'll ask Stephen about comping the crew. We'll figure it out. Thanks for your support.
This was one of the coolest shows I've worked in Austin in a long time, and the over-capacity crowd in out there in the rain was amazing and kinda crazy... people were jumping fences to sneak in. I gladly gave back some of my tiny stagehand paycheck... hope you make funding! I'll have to ask Stephen if all the hands are invited to the premier!

What an amazing, creative, dedicated,open-minded young woman! The dark and blurry parts of the film almost made me turn it off, though.
In honor of Allison and memories of our time together at the Dance Exchange so many years ago.
How well you've done!
Sharon Chaiklin
Thanks for these notes you all. This is great and great energy. We are just at the start of really editing the film so there is not much more to see. BUT, there are a couple of more clips on Vimeo. One was a very early sketch of an idea for a scene. I made it after shooting on New Year's day, 2009. The other is a series of excerpts from the rough edit of th e performance. We borrowed some shots from both of these to make the Kickstarter trailer...but there is also more you haven't seen in these. Go to http://www.vimeo.com/8695970
Marvelous (!!) concept -- excited to see the footage. The idea alone is golden....
Best,
Bob
How I wish I had some extra $$$$ right now --I would happily give it to you!
love it love it love it love it. my friend in austin told me about this last year and i'm fascinated..... thanks for taking the time to tell all the stories. xo
I was a hanger on a trash tuck for almost a year. This project would go over really big in St. Augustine, Florida where I live and work. Art is oozing out of every pot hole and every sidewalk crack
Suuuper cool, good luck!
great idea, hope it doesn't fall thru cracks. how might I contact you all (bziegler@toxco.net)
@Isabelle- Your site and your films look amazing. Thanks for posting!
@kathy -Jessica was terrific to work with. She was one of the 9 shooters on the rehearsal and performance that made it possible to shoot.
thanks for including Jessica (Gardner) in the project. Hope you do again sometime.
This is got to be the coolest thing I've heard of in a long time. I'm myself making a documentary on a community of people who LIVE in trash... and are treated as the trash of society. Very poetic. I also hope to break down the barrier. I was scoping out other kickstarter sites in hopes to find some inspiration. I'm also an avid dancer, mostly tango and salsa although I also dance modern and ballet. What a mix of my own interests I didn't even consider before. Wow! Sounds like cosmic forces are at work. I hope to met y'all one day.
This is awesome! Good luck with your film.
Much trashy love
