About this project

Thank you for watching and reading about Lo-Fi Resistance, and a huge thanks if you should find yourself helping the cause! I'm really excited to be a part of a unique relationship between artist and music lover. Being virtually unknown, I wanted the main video to be an introduction of myself and Lo-Fi Resistance to the world. I didn't want to spoil it by becoming a telemarketer (no offense telemarketers) midway through to pitch you the SUPER COOL STUFF you'll get if you give me your money. That video is below and the details are in print to the right.

I suppose I should give a quick rundown of the $5,000 goal, and why we not only need to hit it, but exceed it. 1. Band Members. Lo-Fi Resistance is one person. I don't have the luxury of having additional band members to split costs with. 2. Hiring Professional Musicians. I try to hire the best cast of musicians I can think of to bring my music to life. This can come with a price. 3. Studio Time. I record a lot at home, but certain things can't be done properly without a nicely equipped studio. Studios typically charge an hourly rate...4. Mixing and Mastering An Album. Lo-Fi Resistance music is very layered sonically. A poor mix or master will destroy my vision, and your complete enjoyment of the album. 5. Artwork and Packaging. Being a big music collector, I love packaging. It seems materialistic, but there was a time (before my time) when the artwork and packaging of an album was incredibly exciting, unique, and sometimes identifiable with a particular artist. 6. Duplication. A nice CD design can cost quite a bit to mass-produce, and I have no interest in Lo-Fi Resistance being exclusively available in digital form. All of these components applied to "Chalk Lines" take the project much closer to $15,000-$20,000. I assure you that I'm not greedy!

It has been an interesting journey for me to get to this point, and hopefully you agree. It is pretty hard to describe one's lifetime, goals, and aspirations in a 10 minute video and a few paragraphs, but it will have to do for now! I'm an artist trying to make the best music I've ever made up to this point. I've had the opportunity to hear some amazing musicians interpret my music, which is a feeling that can't be put into words. I'm not an "industry pro" or "insider." My collaborations have come through a combination of luck, persistence, perseverance, odd timing, networking, unlikely circumstance, and if I can humbly say...some form of talent. I'm serious, but I don't take myself too seriously. After all, I'm just making music, and I hope to share it with you if you're willing to truly listen.

Check back throughout the campaign for blog and video updates. I'll be posting about the campaign, more album details, and some reflections on working with some of my guests. It would be greatly appreciated if you could share this link and campaign with as many people as you can. Got it? Good. Thank you and carry on. We have 30 days.

FAQ

  • I didn't specifically touch on this in the video, but to sum it up in one word...Rock. My music tastes are all over the map, and trying to contain (or restrain) from all of these influences is tough. The 1st L-FR album ("A Deep Breath") to me was a combination of Progressive Rock, Power Pop, Hard Rock, Singer-Songwriter, and some Ambient influences. I like to think it was more cohesive than the description sounds, but I'll admit it was a bit unfocused at times.

I would argue that "Chalk Lines" is taking the blueprint from the 1st album, but refining it to a more consistent place. There is nothing as overtly "pop" as some moments from the 1st album, but those influences still run strong depending on your definition of that word or your musical tastes. Every song is a little journey, and will keep you on your toes a bit for what is coming next. At least I hope...

  • That is the $1,000,000 question. To be honest, I can't really say. It truly depends on the outcome of this Kickstarter campaign. The more funding raised up front will make for a quicker completion of the album. Make no mistake, this won't be a rush job! However, more money now means that I can hire who I need for the project NOW, and with a more focused turn-around time. I hope to have this album hit your ears by April. If this doesn't happen, you will certainly not be left in the dark on the progress and happenings of "Chalk Lines."
