Well last week was exciting, and I thank all of you for your well wishes and for sharing the NYTimes article with your friends. In the past week, I have extended past the fundarisng target, which is magnificent. All additional funding will insure that I can make decisions about the books quality of paper and printing.
Here in the studio lots of things are happening. I am preparing for a show at Rayko Gallery in San Francisco, framing up My White Friends prints for the show. If you are out in SF, please make it a point to see the show. It will run from June 20th - July 15th.
Also at the end of this month, I will be talking at the Photo-Bookworks Symposium at Visual Studies Workshop in Rochester New York from June 28th - 30th. Here I will be sharing the path of making this work to how it becoming a book project.
The bag prototype has been made, and I have to say that I love it. You will be the envy of all of your friends with this one. It is so simple and sleek.
The Fed Ex man came yesterday and handed me a package from China. It took me a moment to remember what could be inside. Behold... the bracelets.
They are funny and fun. I think I will wear one to work today.
So another story you ask. Well sure why not.
Before I lived in Chicago, I was in Rochester. There I met a wide span of friend groups, who are still dear to me to this day. Every year, one group gathers for vacation (whether it be summer or winter) for something endearingly called "Smackdown". It is like the Big Chill weekend, without all the drama and the sex.
This is us walking on a frozen lake, and I bowled with a frozen turkey that day, and shot my first hockey puck. Good times.
In recent years, I have made many great pictures with these people. Here are a few for you to enjoy.
S.D. Lake George New York (2009)
J.S. Lake George New York (2009)
Z.T. Rochester New York. (2007)
J.R. State College Pennsylvania. (2010)
So with 2 weeks of the project to go, there is still time to share with your friends, and to create buzz about the book.
Thanks again for your support. And you will hear more from me soon.
