Gado 2 Sneak Preview!
Thanks to everyone who has backed the project thus far!
Work is going great on Phase 2 of Project Gado. We've been featured on both Sparkfun (http://www.sparkfun.com/news/649) and Hack a Day (http://hackaday.com/2011/06/22/automated-scanning-for-a-pile-of-documents/), and the Gado 2 design is fully mocked up. I've even begun laser cutting parts and testing the mechanics of the new device.
A sneak preview video of the new machine is attached. Also, if you use Twitter, you can now follow the project using @projectgado
Project Gado still needs your support! Please tell your friends about the project and ask them to back it!

Paperback-sized (5.75" X 7.75") photo book featuring ten of the best images from the Afro American Newspaper's World War 2 collection, digitized by the Gado 1. Again, the Afro has one of the largest collections of images documenting African American life anywhere in the world. This part of the collection documents the everyday lives of Black soldiers during the war, and many of these images have never been seen before!

Seventy five of your own photos digitized by the Gado 2 and mailed to you on a CD. Of course, this is contingent on the machine being completed, which should take about six months. You are responsible for postage to get the photos to me; I will pay return postage. Other terms will apply (US only, for example), and will be hammered out once the project is funded. This is only slightly more than many US-based digitization services charge, and supports a great cause!

A Gado 2 kit, once the robot is completed. Expect at least a six month wait if you're OK with an Alpha version, longer if you'd like to receive the kit once the original design has been fully tested. The extra $50 covers shipping, handling, and my labor (to send the kits before I find a fulfillment provider).
