About this project
VAALA needs your help!
Established in 1991, VAALA (Vietnamese Arts & Letters Association) is a non-profit arts organization located in southern California. We provide free events like the Moon Festival, art exhibits like FOB I and II, and literary readings with major writers like Andrew Lam and Monique Truong. We collaborate with Common Ground in order to serve as a space for poetry readings and performances. We provide free art and puppetry classes. We work with institutions like UC Irvine, UCLA, and Bowers Museums to provide the community with entertaining, informative films through the biennial Vietnamese International Film Festival (ViFF). Every year thousands of people come and participate in our events.
In order for us to continue serving the community, however, we need your help.
Our $5000.00 campaign on kickstarter aims to raise funds for basic essentials like:
1) electrical work
2) paint
3) maintenance
4) lighting
5) sound equipment
6) a movable stage
Also, for an exciting art exhibit called "Marvelous Metaphors: Art as Visual Poetry" and curated by Thuy N.D. Tran, we will need donations for all of these things as well as for the opening and closing night receptions.
Basically, we need your help in keeping VAALA a vibrant community space!
Please donate what you can. Every little bit helps. And please continue to give during the 2-month duration we are here on kickstarter, as our needs for VAALA's Cultural Center are ongoing.
We appreciate your support and we thank you for taking the time to watch our video. Most of all, we thank you for your donations. We hope to see you at "Marvelous Metaphors: Art as Visual Poetry" at the VAALA Cultural Center on August 26, 2011.
