OntheFloor. is a new brand of live dance experience set to launch this June 11th at Liberty Hall at the Ace Hotel in New York City. A pilot project of the Dance Cartel, this event seeks to marry the company's rigorous artistic approach with the vibrant social nature of dance. Taking rhythm as a central theme, OntheFloor. will feature the premiere of new repertory from the Cartel, supported by live musicians, video art, DJ, full bar and snacks.

This upcoming premiere draws on recent research trip made by choreographer Ani Taj to Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, and will examine both personal and cultural relationships to rhythm. Points of departure will include body rhythms, like breathing or a heartbeat, to rhythms in communication (speech, gesture), to its crucial place in music itself - from the Brazilian baterias of Carnaval to your favorite house/hip-hop beat. French philosopher Andre Lefebvre states, "Everywhere there is an interaction between a place, a time and an expenditure of energy, there is rhythm." So get down to Liberty Hall at 9pm on June 11th, and like... expend your energy with us.

Our pilot June event is not a one-time blowout party, but the inception of an ongoing multimedia event that will give artists across genres an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and share cutting-edge work with NYC. This is The Dance Cartel's most ambitious project yet, and we hope to establish a sustainable new model of dance presentation. 

For OntheFloor. to succeed, we are seeking funding for rehearsal space, design materials, marketing support and artist fees for our dancers and designers.
