We have a powerful, provocative and passionate show planned for the spring, but we need to get there!
On April 8, we will be performing at the 92nd Street Y in New York City. We are excited to present some of our newest ABD repertoire for this long awaited east coast appearance. We need $10,000 to cover our costs of travel and production and we hope you will help us reach our minimum goal of $5,000 through Kickstarter!
ABD is a women centered, multi-ethnic and multi-cultural modern dance company committed to activism in the arts. We create languages of movement that break with the ordinary paradigm of western dance in the service of presenting choreographies that face difficult issues with eloquence and passion.
Our New York concert will include current original choreographies such as 'Fresh Cut Tears' (a lesbian love duet to music by Leonard Cohen), 'Daughters Untold' (a riveting, heart opening solo performed by Chin-chin Hsu to music by Pamela Z), excerpts of the acclaimed 'Pluto In Capricorn' (an incisive and explosive work, weaving themes of aging, love, and personal collapse into the framework of the current global economic disaster- to original music by Marc Ream), and Bluethenthal’s current solo works 'Be Breathed', 'The Woman Whose Head is on Fire', and 'Kudos to Ecuador'.
For 26 years ABD has been a strong, prominent feature in the artistic landscape of the West coast dance scene. We have been deeply passionate in our commitment to engage communities of identity, spirit and geography in artistic work.
Now we are eager to travel - to interact with, to share our work with communities across the the US and abroad. Our return to NY is the beginning of our travels, which we hope will take us to Boston, Washington, North Carolina, as well as Europe in the coming months and years.
Thank you in advance for your support!

"Bluethenthal has assembled a group of vibrant performers who obviously relish the sheer joy of movement, and then permitted them to let their personalities shine through at every opportunity..." -- Allan Ulrich, SF Examiner
"Bluethenthal's ensemble relish this emotionally eloquent and detailed choreography with a fluidity that is mesmerizing…[they] seem to dig from the earth, or the human body whatever rapture and harmony we are capable of." -- Rita Felciano, Danceview
