NYC based ANIMUS Theatre Co. is diving in to Shakespeare's PERICLES, with brilliant director Ed Berkeley at the helm!
What's the story?
Pericles is ANIMUS Theatre Company's first plunge into the works of the master, William Shakespeare. And we're very excited to be diving in with renowned Shakespeare and opera director Ed Berkeley. Fortunately for you, none of us will be doing any opera singing for this show but we will be wowing with a range of tricks! You can expect to see some sword wielding, riddle solving, magic working, ship sailing, back stabbing, family re-uniting, love falling...um...falling in love, and lots more. Plus the one thousand roles in this show will be played by a core company of only 7 actors! Ok, so maybe there aren't one thousand roles, but it's true that each actor will be transforming into a variety of characters from this epic Shakespearean adventure for your viewing pleasure!
Our production Pericles is set for a 2 week run beginning October 3rd, 2012 at Soho Rep's Walkerspace Theatre here in NYC. We have set our Kickstarter goal at $5,000, which will roughly cover theatre rental, rehearsal space fees, lighting, costumes, stipends for our artistic team, and the giant shark tank for the shipwreck scene (which, after the theatre is paid for, we'll be getting with any of the left over funds). Just kidding....maybe.
With our second MainStage production, ANIMUS is still about creating challenging work and entertaining theatre that is accessible to a wide audience, and we are so excited to bring this lesser known Shakespeare gem to the stage. As we continue to grow and work to get Pericles on it's feet, we thank you for your continued support!
