I am building a pottery studio where I will make functional pieces of art, but I need a little nudge to get it up and running.
I have been making pottery, on and off, for almost a decade. Although I have had dreams of my own studio for more than half that time, I never thought it would be feasible before I was at least 40. Yet here I am - lucky enough to be offered enough space to have a wheel, a kiln, and shelving for my projects and glazes.
However, pottery equipment is both hard to come by in good condition used, and very expensive new. I have already managed to get my hands on an amazing wheel.
Now I need a kiln.
And a wedging table.
And glazes.
And various other sundries that keep a pottery studio running.
So here I am. I love making pottery, and want to keep making it for the rest of my life. I look forward to making it for every person who donates to this project. Will you help me out?
FAQ
-
Absolutely! I will be working exclusively in high-fire stoneware, which is perfect for everyday dishes - less prone to chipping and cracking as long as you don't subject it to thermal shock (straight from the fridge to a pre-heated oven or microwave, or vice versa).

Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to throw, trim, and glaze anything completely since college. However, you can get a sense of my pottery aesthetic by checking out my (infrequently updated) blog at throwingmyheartaway.blogspot.com
You can also check out the update I posted on August 26th - I posted a few pictures of pieces I've made in the past.

I have a tabletop wheel that I do not need. It is in good condition, very heavy-duty, two speeds. Picked it up off craigslist before realizing that it wasn't quite right for me personally. It can be yours! This is limited to relatively local people - either you can come pick it up or I am happy to deliver it within an hour of Somerville.
